{"id":1117977,"date":"2023-01-25T17:10:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T22:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/study-finds-us-would-run-out-of-long-range-munitions-in-1-week-in-china-hot-war\/1117977\/"},"modified":"2023-01-25T17:10:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T22:10:58","slug":"study-finds-us-would-run-out-of-long-range-munitions-in-1-week-in-china-hot-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/study-finds-us-would-run-out-of-long-range-munitions-in-1-week-in-china-hot-war\/1117977\/","title":{"rendered":"Study Finds US Would Run Out Of Long-Range Munitions In 1 Week In China Hot War"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ftpimagefix\" style=\"float:left\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/study-finds-us-would-run-out-long-range-munitions-1-week-china-hot-war\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"aa9c8afc-e017-4271-98b2-cbc6fd986318\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/chinamilfile.png?itok=n_ouYYq5\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Study Finds US Would Run Out Of Long-Range Munitions In 1 Week In China Hot War<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>A new study released this week by the D.C.-based <em>Center for Strategic and International Studies<\/em>\u00a0(CSIS) has concluded that America&#8217;s\u00a0defense industry is <strong>&#8220;not adequately prepared&#8221;<\/strong> for <strong>&#8220;a protracted conventional war&#8221;<\/strong> with an enemy with a large military like China.<\/p>\n<p>The findings were the result of a war games simulation which also relied heavily on observations and statistics being gained from the Ukraine-Russia war, and Washington&#8217;s ongoing military support role to Kiev.<\/p>\n<p>Information from the Ukraine war led CSIS to find that the US would rapidly deplete its munitions, particularly\u00a0long-range, precision-guided ones &#8211;<strong> in merely less than a week of a hot war with China in the Taiwan Strait<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main problem is that the U.S. defense industrial base \u2014 including the munitions industrial base \u2014 is not currently equipped to support a protracted conventional war,&#8221;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/csis-website-prod.s3.amazonaws.com\/s3fs-public\/2023-01\/230119_Jones_Empty_Bins.pdf?VersionId=mW3OOngwul8V2nR2EHKBYxkpiOzMiS88\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0the study<\/a> emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bottom line is the defense industrial base, in my judgment, is <strong>not prepared for the security environment that now exists<\/strong>,&#8221; CSIS\u2019s Seth Jones concluded in a statement to\u00a0<em><a target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/u-s-weapons-industry-isn-t-prepared-for-a-china-conflict-report-says\/ar-AA16EkB6?cvid=0499881e2eb84558a21f9ea510bbd0dd\" data-type=\"URL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/u-s-weapons-industry-isn-t-prepared-for-a-china-conflict-report-says\/ar-AA16EkB6?cvid=0499881e2eb84558a21f9ea510bbd0dd\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As the study&#8217;s main author, Jones posed the question: &#8220;How do you effectively deter if you don\u2019t have sufficient stockpiles of the kinds of munitions you\u2019re going to need for a China-Taiwan Strait kind of scenario?&#8221; According to more from the study:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;As the war in Ukraine illustrates, a war between major powers is likely to be a protracted, industrial-style conflict that needs a robust defense industry able to produce enough munitions and other weapons systems for a protracted war if deterrence fails&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given the lead time for industrial production, it <strong>would likely be too late for the defense industry to ramp up production if a war were to occur without major changes<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report additionally pointed out that the slow-moving nature of US bureaucracy and oversight is also a fundamental aspect to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/3827287-study-defense-industry-unprepared-for-war-with-china\/\" rel=\"noopener\">the problem<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The study also said that the U.S.\u2019s foreign military sales (FMS) take too long because they need to be initiated by the Department of State and then executed by the Department of Defense and ultimately approved by Congress.
