{"id":1117979,"date":"2023-01-25T17:10:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T22:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/police-injured-by-friendly-fire-on-january-6\/1117979\/"},"modified":"2023-01-25T17:10:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T22:10:58","slug":"police-injured-by-friendly-fire-on-january-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/police-injured-by-friendly-fire-on-january-6\/1117979\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Injured By &#8216;Friendly Fire&#8217; On January 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ftpimagefix\" style=\"float:left\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/police-injured-friendly-fire-january-6\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"db6cf9fe-00ac-4f4f-bdc3-60f29b578626\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1230728726.jpg?itok=uYbnw3wV\" alt=\"\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Police Injured By &#8216;Friendly Fire&#8217; On January 6<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2023\/01\/24\/police-injured-by-friendly-fire-on-january-6\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Authored by Julie Kelly via AmGreatness.com,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A New Jersey man will be sentenced on Friday for his participation in the events of January 6, 2021. <strong>Julian Khater, 33, faces up to eight years in prison for allegedly using pepper spray against three police officers, including the late Brian Sicknick, that afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Khater and his friend, George Tanios, were arrested in March 2021 in connection with the alleged assault. <strong>After spending more than 18 months in a fetid D.C. jail under pretrial detention orders &#8211; Judge Thomas Hogan repeatedly denied attempts by his family to post bail &#8211; Khater\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/new-jersey-man-pleads-guilty-assaulting-officers-dangerous-weapon-during-jan-6-capitol\" rel=\"noopener\">pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0to assaulting police officers with a dangerous weapon.<\/strong><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Tanios rejected numerous plea offers on the same charges; prosecutors finally dropped the assault counts, and he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Justice Department\u2019s case was flimsy from the start,<\/strong> which I\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2021\/04\/26\/the-feds-nonexistent-case-against-alleged-sicknick-assailants\/\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a>\u00a0shortly after the pair\u2019s arrest. Khater and Tanios are nothing more than human props to sustain arguably the biggest falsehood related to January 6\u2014that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was killed in the line of duty. Even though a coroner concluded Sicknick died of two strokes caused by a blood clot near his brain, his death is still shamefully\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2023\/01\/10\/the-shameful-exploitation-of-brian-sicknicks-death\/\" rel=\"noopener\">exploited<\/a>\u00a0by everyone from Joe Biden to congressional Democrats and even Sicknick\u2019s own loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Capitol police announced Sicknick\u2019s passing on January 7, 2021, with\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uscp.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/loss-uscp-colleague-brian-d-sicknick\" rel=\"noopener\">claims<\/a>\u00a0he was \u201cinjured while physically engaging with protesters.\u201d Donald Trump and his supporters were immediately branded as cop killers.<\/p>\n<p>The story, however, kept changing. First, the\u00a0<em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em>reported Sicknick had been bludgeoned to death by a fire extinguisher. After the paper\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2021\/02\/14\/the-new-york-times-retracts-the-sicknick-story\/\" rel=\"noopener\">retracted<\/a>\u00a0that story in February 2021, the media, no doubt prompted by the Justice Department, suggested Sicknick died of an allergic reaction to chemical spray.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to salvage the credibility of its first bogus account, the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0published another lengthy\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/03\/24\/us\/officer-sicknick-capitol-riot.html\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0in March 2021 with cherry-picked clips and screenshots designed to reenact the assault.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cNew videos obtained by The New York Times show publicly for the first time how the U.S. Capitol Police officer who died after facing off with rioters on Jan. 6 was attacked with chemical spray.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>But body camera footage from a D.C. Metropolitan police officer on duty that day raises serious doubts about the government\u2019s claims and the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u2019 face-saving story about what happened to Sicknick.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In fact, the video shows how\u00a0<em>police<\/em>, not protesters, gassed their fellow officers with chemical spray. <\/strong>Stricken officers, including Sicknick, appear to seek aid and shelter from the toxic gas, causing the collapse of a security line on the west side of the building.<\/p>\n<p>This six-minute clip from Officer Daniel Thau\u2019s body camera shows the accidental discharge of a 40-millimeter canister of a chemical irritant around 2:25 p.m. on January 6. Thau ordered Officer Richard Khoury to aim a launcher with the canister at protesters assembled on scaffolding erected for Biden\u2019s inauguration.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cFire it up in the air,\u201d Thau instructed Khoury. \u201cJust fucking shoot.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>But Khoury misfired. \u201cWhat the fuck?\u201d <\/strong>he asked.<\/p>\n<p>A large cloud of chemical powder fell short of the scaffolding and instead enveloped a crowd of officers standing on the northern end of the west side of the Capitol. Officers coughed and gasped for air; some were bent over in pain.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The gas cloud quickly traveled southward to where Sicknick was stationed,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/weather\/usa\/washington-dc\/historic?month=1&amp;year=2021\" rel=\"noopener\">propelled<\/a>\u00a0by a brisk 18-mile-per-hour wind out of the north in Washington on January 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claim Khater sprayed Sicknick at around 2:23 p.m., but the evidence, just like everything in the January 6 saga, is dubious at best. Darren Beattie at\u00a0<em>Revolver News<\/em>\u00a0carefully\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.revolver.news\/2021\/03\/new-york-times-sicknick-video-creates-big-problems-for-capitol-riot-prosecutors\/\" rel=\"noopener\">disassembled<\/a>\u00a0both the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u2019 reporting and the government\u2019s evidence.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201c[From] the moment Khater raises a spray canister onward, there is not a single moment in which Khater appears in the same video frame as Officer Sicknick,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Beattie wrote in March 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s because, according to a separate choppy video released by the government in April 2021, Sicknick left that area and headed north\u2014presumably walking straight into the drifting chemical cloud produced by Khoury\u2019s launcher.<\/p>\n<p>Sicknick is then photographed bent over near inaugural scaffolding, the same area where officers quickly advanced up a set of stairs to seek fresh air on the upper west terrace after Khoury\u2019s misfire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>It just happened to be the exact location where Sicknick is also seen on surveillance video recovering from the effects of chemical spray and rinsing his eyes with bottled water about two minutes after Khoury\u2019s misfire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u2019 March 2021 also suggested Khater\u2019s \u201cattack\u201d on law enforcement caused many officers to abandon the secure perimeter. <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe attack on Officer Sicknick and his colleagues comes at a key moment. Within five minutes, the police line collapses, officers retreat into the Capitol and rioters gain control over the west side of the building.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Except that\u2019s not accurate. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Testimony by a top Capitol Police official this month confirmed it was the misfire by Officer Khoury that led to the collapse of the police line, which at the time was successfully keeping the crowd away from the building:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>Defense Attorney Bradford Geyer:<\/strong>\u00a0As we play this, if you can try to pay attention to the smoke, whether it\u2019s just smoke or whether it\u2019s [tear] gas, and the reactions of the officers. Okay?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mendoza:<\/strong>\u00a0OK.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Video played.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Geyer:<\/strong>\u00a0Does it seem to you there\u2019s some kind of retreat by the officers along the line in this video?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a>Report Ad<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mendoza:<\/strong>\u00a0Yes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Geyer:<\/strong>\u00a0So could this be a reason why right around this time you had to confront protestors coming into the crypt and coming into that first floor, because there was a strategic retreat, the\u00a0lines gave way, and the crowd just walked forward with provocateurs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mendoza:<\/strong>\u00a0I can\u2019t say why that specific crowd was where they were at the time they were there.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mendoza also confirmed that police used \u201ca lot of munitions that day.\u201d Thau\u2019s\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v26usre-office-daniel-thaus-body-cam-video-from-january-6-2021.html?mref=li20t&amp;mc=23evc\" rel=\"noopener\">full video<\/a>\u00a0shows his arrival at the west side of the Capitol shortly after 1:00 p.m., more than an hour before the building was breached on the other side. Officers are seen coughing and rubbing their eyes after being hit with tear gas deployed by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At around 1:50 p.m., Thau ordered another officer to \u201cdrop one in there\u201d against the nonviolent crowd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He then warned his colleagues to protect themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWind, wind!\u201d he shouted, referring to high wind conditions.<\/p>\n<p>As Thau tended to the injured, <em><strong>one officer screamed at him: \u201cStop doing the goddamn pepper spray!\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Even giving the government the benefit of the doubt\u2014that Khater attacked Sicknick a minute or so before Khoury\u2019s misfire\u2014it\u2019s clear the individuals responsible for discharging copious amounts of dangerous chemicals into the air on January 6 were police officers.<em> (Khater is seen on open source video at 2:14 p.m. complaining that \u201cthey just sprayed me,\u201d referring to police. And body camera footage from the D.C. Metro police officers who recorded the alleged attack remains under protective seal.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The notion that a palm-sized container of pepper spray could disable three officers standing several feet away is simply not believable.<\/strong> Officer Caroline Edwards, one of the three officers Khater is accused of attacking,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/GPO-J6-TRANSCRIPT-CTRL0000082302\/pdf\/GPO-J6-TRANSCRIPT-CTRL0000082302.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0the January 6 select committee that the spray she encountered was much stronger than what she endured during training. \u201cI remember it hurting a lot more, which is saying something because the academy\u2019s\u2014our pepper spray is\u2014well, it\u2019s actually Sabre Red. It\u2019s no joke. It literally feels like someone punched\u2014just punched like two holes in your eye sockets. This felt like\u2014it was just pain unimaginable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That wasn\u2019t produced by anything allegedly sprayed by Trump supporters. Potent gas that caused dozens of officers to struggle to breathe, see, or stand\u2014some reportedly vomited\u2014was used needlessly by law enforcement itself against a crowd obeying police commands and respecting barriers at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How many of the 140 or so officers reportedly injured on January 6 were hurt by the actions of their own colleagues?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, these facts have surfaced too late to save Julian Khater, who will face the vengeful wrath of federal prosecutors and an octogenarian judge, all of whom consider January 6 an act of domestic terror.
