Multiple Pedestrians Struck, Dragged By U-Haul Truck In NYC “Rampage”: Official<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0A man driving a truck hit \u201cwent on a rampage\u201d and hit several pedestrians in\u00a0Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on Monday morning, said a\u00a0New York<\/a>\u00a0City councilman.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cA man driving a U-Haul went on a rampage in Bay Ridge,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>City Councilman Justin Brannan\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter Monday, adding that \u201cseveral people were hit and badly injured.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have no idea of motives at this time but this wasn\u2019t an accident,\u201d <\/strong>Brannan claimed. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe think he hit at least 6 people with the truck and 2 are in very bad shape. PLEASE pray for these folks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Video footage posted online on Monday showed the incident in Brooklyn involving a U-Haul truck.<\/p>\n

Police officials\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0local media reported that a\u00a0man in his 30s was hit by the U-Haul on 4th Avenue, while three other men who were on mopeds were struck and sustained minor injuries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Epoch Times’ Jack Phillips reports<\/a> that the incident happened on the same day a convicted terrorist,\u00a0Sayfullo Saipov, is facing sentencing for killing eight people\u00a0in a 2017 rampage while driving a U-Haul truck down a New York City bike path.<\/strong> A jury is considering a possible death sentence.<\/p>\n

Saipov has previously expressed admiration for the ISIS terrorist group and has said he had an obligation to carry out those attacks, according to his attorney. \u201cAnd as we sit here today, he still believes that, he still believes the ISIS messaging and he still believes it was God\u2019s will that he do what he did,\u201d Saipov\u2019s attorney David Patton\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0last month.<\/p>\n

Officials have not publicly said whether the two incidents were linked. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the suspect attempted to evade capture before police arrested him following a chase.<\/p>\n

The driver of the U-Haul truck is currently being held at the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, a nearby area of Brooklyn. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Fox News reports<\/a> that law enforcement sources reportedly told the New York Post the individual in custody is known to authorities stemming from a prior EDP [emotionally disturbed person] incident from 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roberts Boyce, the former New York City Police Department chief of detectives,\u00a0told ABC7<\/a>\u00a0that both incidents are comparable.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts the first thing I thought,\u201d Boyce told the outlet. \u201cI worked the Sayfull Saipov case I remember how dangerous it was and what he did and how deadly it was. That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard the rented truck. So let\u2019s hope it\u2019s not that and it\u2019s a person in mental distress at this point and it\u2019s nothing more than that. It\u2019s difficult to link the two right now but how can you not think about that?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On New Year\u2019s Eve, three NYPD officers were attacked by a man wielding a macheted near Times Square, officials\u00a0said<\/a>.\u00a0Trevor Bickford, a 19-year-old from Maine, was arrested and charged in that case last month as reports\u00a0indicated<\/a>\u00a0that he may have been motivated by Islamic extremist viewpoints.<\/p>\n

NYPD’s bomb squad is at the scene to check the truck for possible explosives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
