Ben Savage, former star of \u201cBoy Meets World,\u201d is running for Congress.<\/p>\n

Savage, 42, confirmed on Instagram<\/a> that he is running to represent District 30 in the Los Angeles area, which is currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. Schiff is running for the Senate seat held by Dianne Feinstein, who last month announced plans to retire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community,\u201d Savage wrote in an Instagram post announcing his candidacy on March 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cI firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and expanding opportunities for all,\u201d his post also read. \u201cI\u2019m running for Congress because it\u2019s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country\u2019s most pressing issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

District 30 includes areas such as Hollywood, Burbank and Glendale.<\/p>\n

Savage\u2019s Instagram announcement came after he filed paperwork for his campaign with the Federal Election Commission<\/a> in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On his campaign website, the actor referenced his past as a child actor, though without referring to \u201cBoy Meets World,\u201d in which he starred from 1993 to 2000.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He also reprised his role as Cory Matthews in the \u201cGirl Meets World\u201d reboot from 2014 to 2017.<\/p>\n

Savage noted on his campaign website<\/a> that thanks to his acting past, he \u201clearned the value of a hard day\u2019s work by age 5 and the importance of union membership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans couldn\u2019t resist references to Savage\u2019s \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d legacy in comments about his campaign announcement on Instagram, with one person chiming in, \u201cBoy meets congress!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Feeny would be soo proud,\u201d another fan wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBen savage. Honest. Loyal. Decent,\u201d another person commented, referring to Cory\u2019s campaign slogan when he runs for eighth grade president in \u201cBoy Meets World.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to his campaign website, Savage graduated from Stanford University with a degree in political science and currently lives in West Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Outlining his priorities on his campaign website, Savage said he was focused on issues including \u201creforms and improvements to police-citizen interactions,\u201d homelessness, affordable housing, protecting unions and affordable health care, among other areas.<\/p>\n

Savage was unsuccessful in a bid for a West Hollywood City Council seat last year.<\/p>\n
