Maiden Flight Of B-21 Raider Stealth Bomber Delayed <\/span><\/p>\n

The maiden flight of the US Air Force’s B-21 Raider has been delayed until the end of the year, USAF Secretary Frank Kendall told reporters in Washington on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

“It’s slipped from the original schedule \u2014 that we were using as a schedule to manage by \u2014 by a few months,” Kendall said, adding, “it’s still within the baseline [schedule] that we originally had for the program.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

B-21 manufacturer Northrop Grumman told\u00a0Defense News<\/a>\u00a0that it expects the bomber’s maiden flight by the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

“The program remains on track to the government baseline for cost, schedule and performance.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0“The program continues to focus on system maturity, production readiness and sustainment preparedness to best position the B-21 for first flight and an effective flight test campaign, leading to initial operating capability.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The first B-21 was\u00a0unveiled to the public<\/a>\u00a0on December 2.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The USAF released\u00a0updated images<\/a>\u00a0on March 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

This is not surprising since the military and its defense contractors struggle with cost overruns and delays.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
