In the case of the United States, things indisputably are bad, and worsening. You know that. But look on the bright side.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sure Merrick Garland, the first\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/c\/cc\/Grant_Wood_-_American_Gothic_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg\/1920px-Grant_Wood_-_American_Gothic_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">American Gothic attorney general<\/a>\u00a0of the United States, is a partisan horror show<\/strong>,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/3523807-pavlich-merrick-garlands-dereliction-of-duty\/\" rel=\"noopener\">withholding real protection from Supreme Court justices<\/a>\u00a0who are threatened by violent criminals even as he stigmatizes as \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thespectator.com\/topic\/beginning-democrats-biden-defeat-merrick-garland-critical-race-theory\/\" rel=\"noopener\">domestic terrorists<\/a>\u201d parents who criticize their local school boards and orders the FBI to conduct\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newswars.com\/22-lawmakers-demand-mehttps:\/\/www.newswars.com\/22-lawmakers-demand-merrick-garland-explain-alleged-fbi-swat-raid-on-catholic-pro-life-activist-mark-houck\/rrick-garland-explain-alleged-fbi-swat-raid-on-catholic-pro-life-activist-mark-houck\" rel=\"noopener\">dawn raids<\/a>\u00a0on critics of the regime. He is a horrible man and a dangerous partisan hack, the very instantiation of the two-tier application of the law that has made such a mockery of justice during Biden\u2019s tenure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>But again, look on the bright side. Garland will soon be gone. And remember, he almost made it to the Supreme Court. <\/strong>Obama nominated him in the waning days of his administration. But Donald Trump had other ideas and\u2014let\u2019s give credit where credit is due\u2014Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made sure that Garland\u2019s nomination got lost when Republicans held the majority. I am no fan of McConnell\u2019s, but I try to remember to say a little prayer for him whenever I list my intentions. By scotching Garland\u2019s ascension to the Court, McConnell did the country a huge favor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I say Garland will \u201csoon\u201d be gone. Most of my readers will assume I mean on or about January 20, 2025, when the next Republican president assumes office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It might take that long. But recent developments have me wondering whether he might make his\u00a0<em>cong\u00e9\u00a0<\/em>even earlier<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A few days ago, it was reported that an unnamed, senior IRS special agent was seeking whistle-blower status in connection with the ongoing investigation of First Son Hunter Biden, who has\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thespectator.com\/topic\/hunter-biden-tax-investigation\/\" rel=\"noopener\">serious tax problems<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to a letter from the agent\u2019s lawyer to several House and Senate committees, <strong>the agent laid out multiple examples of \u201cpreferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject [i.e., Hunter Biden] were not politically connected.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The agent\u2019s allegations also \u201ccontradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee\u201d and \u201cinvolve failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case\u201d against Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>An \u201cunnamed senior political appointee,\u201d eh? <\/strong>Well, that unnamed status didn\u2019t last long. On Thursday,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/20\/merrick-garland-at-center-of-hunter-biden-whistleblower-claim\/\" rel=\"noopener\">the\u00a0<em>New York Post<\/em>\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that the international man of mystery was none other than Merrick Garland himself.<\/p>\n<p>Back in March, Garland had\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/garland-insists-charges-hunter-biden-brought-outside-delaware\" rel=\"noopener\">insisted to Congress<\/a>\u00a0that the investigation into Hunter Biden\u2019s extracurricular activities was free from political interference. David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney investigating the case, had full autonomy, Garland said. Quoth Garland, \u201cThe U.S. attorney has been advised that he has full authority to make kind of those referrals you\u2019re talking about or to bring cases in other jurisdictions if he feels it is necessary, and I will assure that if he does, then he will be able to do that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was not reported whether that claim was greeted with titters. I assume that the echoing claim from the White House, that the investigation would be \u201cfree from any political interference by the White House,\u201d was greeted by at least restrained and incredulous laughter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-04-23_11-23-06.jpg?itok=-UqfHaQG\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-04-23_11-23-06.jpg?itok=-UqfHaQG\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Thierry Monasse\/Getty Images<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What does it all portend? Probably about the same thing that the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thespectator.com\/topic\/antony-blinken-hunter-biden-laptop-revelations-impeachment\/\" rel=\"noopener\">revelation last week regarding Secretary of State Antony Blinken<\/a>\u00a0portends.<strong> Blinken, it transpired, was the origin of the campaign against the story,<\/strong> first reported by the<em>\u00a0New York Post<\/em>, about Hunter Biden\u2019s \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Laptop-Hell-Hunter-Secrets-President\/dp\/163758105X\" rel=\"noopener\">laptop from hell<\/a>.\u201d Forget about the salacious bits\u2014the drugs, the guns, the whores. More damaging were the emails detailing some of the Biden family\u2019s corrupt business dealings with various foreign entities, dealings that clearly implicated the \u201cBig Guy,\u201d Joe Biden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Post<\/em>\u00a0bombshell was detonated a scant two weeks before the 2020 presidential election. It promised disaster for the Biden campaign. What to do? Remember the 51 former intelligence specialists, including such senior figures as former CIA director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/18\/intelligence-experts-refuse-to-apologize-for-smearing-hunter-biden-story\/\" rel=\"noopener\">signed a letter<\/a>\u00a0testifying that the laptop bore \u201call the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation\u201d?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0According to\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thespectator.com\/topic\/antony-blinken-hunter-biden-laptop-revelations-impeachment\/\" rel=\"noopener\">the sworn testimony<\/a>\u00a0of Michael Morell\u2014a senior Democratic operative\u2014it was\u00a0<em>he<\/em>, working hand-in-glove with Blinken, then a Biden campaign official, who organized the letter and helped shut down the story. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Why did he do this?<\/p>\n<p>Two reasons.<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>wanted to help Joe Biden in his debates with Donald Trump,<\/strong> so he wanted the story buried. Beyond that, he said, <strong>he wanted Biden \u201cto win the election.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What better way to help than to use the power of the state to censor the media and thereby suppress an unflattering story, one that would\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseGOP\/status\/1623764893236183040?s=20\" rel=\"noopener\">probably have altered the outcome of the election<\/a>?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is possible that both Garland and Blinken will have to answer for their alleged malfeasance. Both might easily be impeached and forced from office.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If they are, it will be a signal that the Regime is about to expel Joe Biden and find another candidate for 2024. I don\u2019t really expect that to happen, though anything is possible in this increasingly yeasty situation.
