An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing after an engine burst into flames in mid-air, Ohio officials said.<\/p>\n
The flight from John Glenn International Airport in Columbus was bound for Phoenix<\/a>, Arizona, according to FlightAware. It took off around 7:40 a.m. EDT but landed back at John Glenn about 40 minutes later.<\/p>\n \u201cEmergency crews responded to an aircraft incident at CMH this morning involving a reported engine fire<\/a>. The aircraft landed safely and the airport is open and operational,\u201d the airport said in a tweet.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Boeing 737\u2019s crew reported a \u201cpossible bird strike,\u201d the Federal Aviation Administration said in a news release.<\/p>\n Passengers said they heard loud noises outside the cabin<\/a>, a witness told WCMH.\u00a0<\/p>\n The pilot said they had flown through a flock of geese<\/a>, which likely damaged the engine and caused it to catch fire, a passenger told WBNS.<\/p>\n No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n The FAA is investigating.<\/p>\n Southwest flight to Texas delayed.
