Stand-up comedian and \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d actor Richard Lewis revealed in a video posted Sunday on Twitter that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The comedian said he\u2019s had \u201csort of a rocky time\u201d over the past three years with his health. In addition to Parkinson\u2019s disease, Lewis had several surgeries on his shoulder, back and hip. For these reasons, Lewis is strictly focusing on \u201cwriting and acting\u201d these days and is no longer performing stand-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cHey listen, I just wrapped a couple of weeks ago season 12 of \u2018Curb Your Enthusiasm\u2019 and it was just an amazing season and I\u2019m so grateful to be a part of that show,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cBut you know the last 3 1\/2 years, I\u2019ve had sort of a rocky time and people said, \u2018I haven\u2019t heard from you, are you still touring?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHere\u2019s really what happened,\u201d Lewis continued. \u201cThree and half years ago I was in the middle of a tour and I finally ended it with a show. I said, \u2018You know I\u2019m at the top of my game, after 15 years almost I\u2019m going to call it quits,\u2019 and I felt great about that and then out of the blue the s\u2014 hit the fan. I had four surgeries back to back to back to back, it was incredible, I couldn\u2019t believe it, it was bad luck, but that\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI just wanted to let you know that\u2019s where it\u2019s been at,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI\u2019m finished with stand-up. I\u2019m just focusing on writing and acting. I have Parkinson\u2019s disease but I\u2019m under a doctor\u2019s care and everything is cool. I love my wife, I love my little puppy dog and I love all my friends and my fans. And now you know where it\u2019s been at the last three and a half years. God bless you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lewis said his Parkinson\u2019s diagnosis came after he \u201cwent to a neurologist and they gave me a brain scan\u201d because he noticed some shifty movements in his feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThat was about two years ago. But luckily I got it late in life and they say you progress very slowly if at all and I\u2019m on the right meds so I\u2019m cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
On \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm,\u201d which is expected to debut its 12th season on HBO before the end of the year, Lewis plays a fictionalized version of himself. The comedian is also known for starring in the sitcom \u201cAnything but Love\u201d and the film \u201cRobin Hood: Men in Tights.\u201d Despite recent reports that \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d would end after its 12th season, the series is expected to continue as long as creator Larry David wants to keep going.<\/p>\n
