“I, at least, think of myself as a moderate,” <\/strong><\/em>Elon Musk told Bill Maher during an appearance Friday night on the comedian’s HBO show.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Despite being decried by all asunder as a ‘far-right conservative operative’ or some such hyperbole, Musk said:<\/p>\n

\n

“I spent a massive amount of my life energy building sustainable energy, you know, electric vehicles, and batteries, and solar. It’s not exactly far-right<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Musk made his opinion clear a year ago – he hasn’t changed, the world has…<\/p>\n

And somehow in all this divisive bullshit, ‘allowing’ free speech has become a virtue of the far-right, the enablers of violence, the fascists<\/p>\n

“Free speech used to be a left or liberal value, and yet we see from the quote ‘left’ a desire to actually censor, and that seems crazy.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“I think we should be extremely concerned about anything that undermines the First Amendment,” Musk said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

More explicitly regarding his acquisition or, and changes made at, Twitter, Musk said:<\/p>\n

\n

“My concern with Twitter was to that it is somewhat of the digital town square and it’s important that there be both the reality and perception of trust for a wide range of viewpoints.<\/strong>“<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Maher responded that he does not tweet any more because \u201cit\u2019s too easy to get canceled\u201d by a mob.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBecause you may be the mayor of tweet town now and I\u2019m glad – I like it that the mayor likes my jokes – but the reason I don\u2019t do it anymore is because the mob of mean girls is still there <\/strong>and that has not changed. <\/em><\/p>\n

Like, it\u2019s too easy to get canceled and I don\u2019t even know what pisses them off:<\/strong> they\u2019re so nuts, these kids. <\/em><\/p>\n

I feel like I\u2019m walking on a roof with a blind fold: I could fall off anytime, that was the most innocuous thing, but it\u2019s like, you know, I said George Washington was a great president – oh how dare you,\u201d Maher continued.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cYou have to say, like, what does canceled mean? <\/strong>You know – I mean, yes, if people attack you on Twitter that\u2019s one thing – but frankly that\u2019s just going to increase engagement. So I would just ignore it,<\/strong>\u201d Musk replied somewhat prosaically.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

And so Maher stepped it up a little more:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have talked about this woke mind virus in really apocalyptic terms,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Maher asked Musk<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t – you should explain why you don\u2019t think it\u2019s hyperbole to say things like it\u2019s pushing civilization towards suicide. First of all, what is the woke mind virus?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Musk responded much more clearly this time:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI think we need to be very cautious about anything that is anti-meritocratic <\/strong>and anything that results in the suppression of free speech,\u201d Musk said.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, those are two of the aspects of the woke mind virus that I think are very dangerous, is that it\u2019s often very anti-meritocratic, and you can\u2019t question things.<\/strong> Even the questioning is bad.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Maher agreed, and asked Musk where he thinks this ‘woke mind virus’ originated from:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI was trying to figure out where it\u2019s coming from. I think it\u2019s actually been a long time brewing, in that it\u2019s – I think it\u2019s been going on for a while, and the amount of indoctrination that\u2019s happening in schools and universities is I think far beyond what parents realize<\/strong>,\u201d Musk said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
