Several popular country singers, including Travis Tritt and John Rich, said they wouldn\u2019t serve the beer, while Kid Rock posted a video of him shooting up cases of Bud Light.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cWe at Bama Budweiser, an independent wholesaler, employ around 100 people who live here, work here, and our children go to school here,\u201d Tatum\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/bud-light-distributor-issues-public-plea-bring-back-angry-customers-1801500\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in the ad.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe do not, and as I said before, did not support this issue involving Dylan Mulvaney. There was one single can made. It was not for sale and wasn\u2019t properly approved. As a result, the Bud Light brand has new leadership.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tatum added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201c<strong>Dylan Mulvaney is not under contract with Bud Light. <\/strong>The videos you may have seen are Mulvaney\u2019s own social media posts that went viral and many web-based news outlets have distorted the story. <strong>You deserve to know the truth, and life is too short to let a couple of individuals decide what you can eat or drink or spend your hard-earned money on<\/strong>. And remember, making friends is our business, not enemies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Drop in Sales<\/h2>\n<p>Latest industry data shows that Bud Light\u2019s sales dropped in the first week of May, falling 23.6 percent in the week ending May 6,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/beernet.com\/latest-bud-light-numbers-have-declines-hit-their-floor\/\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0Beer Business Daily using Nielsen IQ data. In the final week of April, sales for the beer dropped 23.3 percent, the data show.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cTrends aren\u2019t getting much worse, but certainly not getting any better either,\u201d <\/strong>Beer Business Daily wrote in a commentary on the figures.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tatum told AL.com that he\u2019s received positive feedback for his ad campaign. However, he said that there has been no response from Anheuser-Busch or Bud Light corporate officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cI\u2019m just trying to look after Bama Budweiser,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve worked too hard to give it all away.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The distributor\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/bud-light-distributor-issues-public-plea-bring-back-angry-customers-1801500\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a>\u00a0to Newsweek that \u201cI felt like we had to get a message out there,\u201d adding: <em><strong>\u201cWe are tied to a corporation, but that\u2019s not necessarily our beliefs in our market here in Alabama.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sales volumes for Anheuser-Busch products also dropped 9.7 percent for the first week in May, up from the 11.4 percent decline in late April, according to industry data. Anheuser-Busch, which has headquarters in the Netherlands, also makes Budweiser,\u00a0Michelob, Stella Artois, and Beck\u2019s, among other beers.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Misinformation and Confusion\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/dc63c64c-d32e-460a-afdc-458c94860c93\" rel=\"noopener\">told the Financial Times<\/a>\u00a0in a recent interview that his company believes the Bud Light boycott was triggered\u00a0by \u201cmisinformation and confusion\u201d circulating on social media and sought to distance his firm from Mulvaney. He said that Mulvaney wasn\u2019t part of an official marketing campaign and that \u201cone can\u201d was produced with Mulvaney\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cIt was one post. It was not an advertisement,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>Doukeris told the outlet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He alleged viral videos of billboards with images of the Bud Light can with Mulvaney\u2019s face on it inserted \u201celectronically,\u201d although <strong>he did not address why Mulvaney wrote the hashtag on social media suggesting a partnership.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Initially,\u00a0Anheuser-Busch USA CEO\u00a0Brendan Whitworth released a statement that did not address the boycott or the Mulvaney partnership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The company \u201cnever intended to be part of a discussion that divides people,\u201d <\/strong>he said in a statement, which was criticized by conservatives.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Anheuser-Busch InBev had its stock downgraded recently by an HSBC analyst\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/anheuser-busch-stock-downgraded-as-it-deals-with-bud-light-crisis_5255459.html\" rel=\"noopener\">who said<\/a>\u00a0the firm is now dealing with a \u201cBud Light crisis\u201d of sorts. There are \u201cdeeper problems\u201d than\u00a0Anheuser-Busch would like to admit publicly after its marketing engagement with the transgender influencer became a hot topic, the analyst said.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018The Tide Has Turned\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>While some analysts and researchers say that boycotts of large corporations rarely work, a former Anheuser-Busch, Anson Frericks,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/bud-light-controversy-going-away\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0last week that the Bud Light one is actually working.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cNow, the tide has turned. A poll conducted earlier this year shows that 68 percent of Americans think that companies that speak out on social issues do it as a marketing ploy,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>he wrote.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd a study out earlier this month shows that Americans are much more likely to distrust institutions they view as politicized\u2014even when they take political positions that align with their views.
