However, Mitsotakis was short of achieving a majority in parliament, but political analysts expect he will secure a single-party government in the next elections in about a month, according to Bloomberg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Analysts and investors view the election as one of the last roadblocks standing in the country&#8217;s path to regaining its investment-grade rating that was lost 13 years ago during a debt crisis and resulting austerity measures to clamp down on debt. Last year, Greece recorded the fastest debt-to-GDP decline than any other country on the continent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-35-56.png?itok=SVBOa95O\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-35-56.png?itok=SVBOa95O\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moody&#8217;s Investors Service said the election was a positive credit event:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;In particular, continued focus on improving the business environment and banking sector health, together with implementation of milestones and reforms under Greece&#8217;s National Recovery Plan will support economic growth,&#8221; Moody&#8217;s Senior Vice President Steffen Dyck said in an email statement to Bloomberg.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dyck continued, &#8220;Combined with commitment to fiscal consolidation and rising primary surpluses this improves the prospects for a further significant reduction in Greece&#8217;s government debt burden.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After years of austerity measures to tackle government debt, voters feel that Mitsotakis&#8217;s plan to rebuild Greece and reclaim its investment-grade status will put the country on a successful trajectory.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;New Democracy has the people&#8217;s approval to rule alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I know how much work we have ahead of us, which requires a government that truly believes in reforms and the ability to implement them,&#8221; Mitsotakis said Sunday night.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result, the benchmark Athens Stock Exchange General Index jumped nearly 7% &#8212; the highest level in almost a decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-27-13.png?itok=gCGxu7pe\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-27-13.png?itok=gCGxu7pe\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7f17b983-7ec1-4b3e-b83e-2f836637ac97\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"244\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-27-13.png?itok=gCGxu7pe\" alt=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, Greek bonds moved higher, dropping to about 3.91% on the yield for the 10-year debt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-30-17.png?itok=vJ4VITIc\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-30-17.png?itok=vJ4VITIc\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"2ba4a5a2-c2b8-44b8-992d-b9f7ae1dd164\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"275\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2023-05-22_12-30-17.png?itok=vJ4VITIc\" alt=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The results were well beyond market expectations, with New Democracy being the clear winner,&#8221; said Alevizos Alevizakos, managing director of Axia Ventures Athens.<\/p>\n<p>Eurobank Equities strategist said, &#8220;We expect a sharp re-pricing of Greek assets in the coming weeks, as investors position for the compelling Greek thesis in the next few years.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">Greek stocks are surging in reaction to strong election support for market-friendly Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/p>\n<p>Paul Tugwell has more <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lVy4OpoBFN\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/lVy4OpoBFN<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B1MwmSdpAm\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/B1MwmSdpAm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bloomberg TV (@BloombergTV) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BloombergTV\/status\/1660573974701527042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">May 22, 2023<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Greeks want an economic miracle after austerity measures that led to slow economic growth.
