Black Americans Embrace Florida<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor Ron DeSantis is standing up for everyday Americans, which helps explain why people of all races are moving to Florida in droves…<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

These days headlines read like parodies, which is certainly the case with the NAACP\u2019s recent\u00a0announcement<\/a>\u00a0that it has issued \u201ca formal travel advisory for the state of Florida.\u201d <\/strong>That\u2019s right: The NAACP isn\u2019t particularly worried about black people visiting North Korea, Iran, or inner-city neighborhoods in Chicago. It\u2019s worried about them heading to Florida\u2019s beaches or amusement parks. Why? Because Governor Ron DeSantis has led \u201cunrelenting attacks on fundamental freedoms\u201d such as the freedom to teach critical race theory and other divisive racial and transgender propaganda, in the state\u2019s public schools at taxpayer expense.<\/p>\n

In truth, Florida has led the nation in ensuring Americans\u2019 freedoms, and black Americans have taken notice.<\/strong> During COVID, while 40 states\u00a0issued<\/a>\u00a0mask mandates, DeSantis led the resistance against the public-health cabal and ensured Floridians could live their lives as freedom-loving citizens, rather than as\u00a0masked subjects<\/a>. As a result of this and other sensible and freedom-promoting policies, black Americans have not only traveled to Florida but have moved there in large numbers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, based on\u00a0statistics<\/a>\u00a0from the Florida Department of Health, the number of black people who live in Florida rose 5.5 percent from 2018 (the year DeSantis was first elected as governor) to 2021 (the most recent figures available).<\/strong> That\u2019s even more than the 4.5 percent increase in the state\u2019s white population <\/strong>over that span. And it\u2019s more than three times the 1.6 percent\u00a0increase<\/a>\u00a0in the overall U.S. population across that three-year period.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since DeSantis was elected, roughly a quarter of a million black Americans have freely chosen to move to the Sunshine State. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The disconnect between the views of most black Americans and the views of the modern-day NAACP could hardly be more pronounced.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The NAACP has chosen to ally itself with LGBT activists,\u00a0decreeing<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cFlorida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n

This \u201chostility,\u201d the NAACP reports, is evidenced by DeSantis\u2019 opposition to \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion\u201d (DEI) programs. The Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT advocacy group,\u00a0issued<\/a>\u00a0a parallel travel advisory, claiming that Florida is \u201chostile\u201d to gay and trans people, while also objecting to Florida\u2019s newly passed pro-life legislation, which protects developing children in the womb against the abortion lobby.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another LGBT group, Equality Florida, suggests Florida\u2019s duly passed laws pose too much of a \u201crisk\u201d for gay travelers to brave the Sunshine State.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u00a0writes<\/a>, \u201cTaken in their totality, Florida\u2019s slate of laws and policies targeting basic freedoms and rights pose a serious risk to the health and safety of those traveling to the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amazingly, the NAACP\u00a0accuses<\/a>\u00a0DeSantis of trying to \u201cappeal to a dangerous, extremist minority\u201d in opposing critical-race theory (CRT) and DEI programs. In truth, CRT and DEI are pushed by aggressive, well-funded leftist activists who are themselves a dangerous, extremist minority.<\/strong> In opposing their efforts, DeSantis is standing up for everyday Americans. Indeed, he has been a model for doing so, which helps explain why people of all races are moving to Florida in droves.<\/p>\n

Based on\u00a0statistics<\/a>\u00a0from the U.S. Census Bureau, from July 1, 2020 to July 1, 2022, Florida led the nation in net domestic migration<\/strong> (which measures how many people moved to a given state from other states, minus the number who moved the other direction). Over that span, Florida added 563,000 residents in net domestic migration\u2014more than the population of Miami. And it can\u2019t just be the weather. Over that same span, California\u00a0lost<\/em>\u00a0802,000 residents in net domestic migration\u2014nearly equal to the size of San Francisco.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NAACP also preposterously claims that DeSantis is trying to \u201cerase [b]lack history.\u201d Perhaps the NAACP should limit its travel advisory to Walt Disney World, where a beloved ride based on slave folktales\u2014Splash Mountain\u2014was just\u00a0canceled<\/a>\u00a0in an example of just the sort of wokeness that DeSantis is committed to fighting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
