{"id":1392543,"date":"2023-08-08T21:45:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T01:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1392543"},"modified":"2023-08-08T21:45:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T01:45:00","slug":"wework-shares-collapse-after-company-warns-substantial-doubt-exists-about-staying-in-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/wework-shares-collapse-after-company-warns-substantial-doubt-exists-about-staying-in-business\/1392543\/","title":{"rendered":"WeWork Shares Collapse After Company Warns &#8220;Substantial Doubt&#8221; Exists About Staying In Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">WeWork Shares Collapse After Company Warns &#8220;Substantial Doubt&#8221; Exists About Staying In Business<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>It all started off positively as WeWork reported revenue for the second quarter that almost met the average analyst estimate (Revenue $844 million, +3.6% YoY, estimate $851 million).<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn a difficult operating environment, we have delivered solid year-over-year revenue growth and dramatic profitability improvements,\u201d David Tolley, Interim Chief Executive Officer, commented. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cExcess supply in commercial real estate, increasing competition in flexible space and macroeconomic volatility drove <strong>higher member churn and softer demand than we anticipated, resulting in a slight decline in memberships.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But then things started to go downhill&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Against expectations of a $2.68mm profit, the co-working company suffered an adjusted-EBITDA loss of $36mm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The net loss was $397mm and cash levels are at $205mm (down 67% YoY).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And then it went off the cliff&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-08-08_14-32-47.jpg?itok=6XA0gWlH\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Later in the filing, the company added, <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<em>as a result of the Company\u2019s losses and projected cash needs, combined with increased member churn and current liquidity levels, <strong>substantial doubt exists about the Company\u2019s ability to continue as a going concern.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Company\u2019s ability to continue as a going concern is contingent upon successful execution of management\u2019s plan <\/strong>to improve liquidity and profitability over the next 12 months, which includes, without limitation:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reducing rent and tenancy costs via restructuring actions and negotiation of more favorable lease terms;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Increasing revenue by reducing member churn and increasing new sales;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Controlling expenses and limiting capital expenditures; and<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Seeking additional capital via issuance of debt or equity securities or asset sales.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWe are confident in our ability to meet the evolving workplace needs of businesses of all sizes across sectors and geographies, and our long term company vision remains unchanged,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>continued Tolley.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAlthough we have more work to do, the talent and energy of the WeWork team is extraordinary and we are resolutely focused on delivering for our members for the long term.
