{"id":1401297,"date":"2023-08-13T23:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T03:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1401297"},"modified":"2023-08-13T23:15:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-14T03:15:00","slug":"covid-victims-families-sue-ecohealth-alliance-for-funding-releasing-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/covid-victims-families-sue-ecohealth-alliance-for-funding-releasing-virus\/1401297\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID Victims&#8217; Families Sue EcoHealth Alliance For &#8216;Funding, Releasing&#8217; Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">COVID Victims&#8217; Families Sue EcoHealth Alliance For &#8216;Funding, Releasing&#8217; Virus<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The families of <strong>four people who died from COVID-19 are suing EcoHealth alliance<\/strong>, the New York-based nonprofit that was conducting gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses in Wuhan, China, before COVID-19 broke out across town.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/das_0_0.jpg?itok=mC-Cb-0v\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the Aug. 2 lawsuit filed before the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan, <strong>EcoHealth and its president, Peter Daszak, knew the virus was &#8220;capable of causing a worldwide pandemic.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not only did EcoHealth help to create a &#8216;genetically manipulated virus,&#8217; the lawsuit claims, <strong>it worked to cover up the origins of the outbreak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>If we had known the source or origin of this virus and had not been misled that it was from a pangolin in a wet market, and rather we knew that it was a genetically manipulated virus, and that the scientists involved were concealing that from our clients, the outcome could have been very different<\/strong>,&#8221; victims&#8217; attorney Patricia Finn told the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/08\/12\/covid-victims-families-sue-nyc-based-ecohealth-over-virus\/\"><em>NY Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The families of Mary Conroy, of Pennsylvania; Emma D. Holley, of Rochester, NY; Larry Carr, of Crossville, Tennessee; and Raul Osuna, of Bennington, Nebraska, are seeking unspecified damages.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c[The families of the deceased] are definitely in mourning, but moreover<strong> they\u2019re enraged because the truth of what really happened appears to be coming forward,<\/strong>\u201d Finn added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Paul Rinker, of Pennsylvania, is also suing Midtown-based EcoHealth and Daszak over the \u201cserious injuries\u201d he suffered from his bout with the bug. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finn is also suing EcoHealth and Daszak in Nassau and Rockland Counties on behalf of the families of other victims killed by the virus, as well as two who survived.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This particular case is highly offensive because it appears they knew and concealed the origin of the virus,&#8221; said Finn, adding &#8220;The treatment or approach taken in dealing with the virus could have been radically different than it was.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fauci is simply lying here. Zheng-Li Shi&#8217;s lab at the WIV and EcoHealth Alliance (which administered NIH subawards to Zheng-Li Shi&#8217;s lab) were absolutely manipulating viruses (using NIAID funds) in order to see which mutations would make them more dangerous to humans. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2MD0oM4sWh\">https:\/\/t.co\/2MD0oM4sWh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Justin B. Kinney (@jbkinney) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jbkinney\/status\/1690157532004683776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 12, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>EcoHealth notably<strong> received a re-activated grant from the NIH for over $576,000 <\/strong>in May to study how outbreaks of deadly viruses like SARS, MERS, and now COVID-19 originate from wildlife and transfers to humans, despite failing to meet the NIH&#8217;s conditions for reinstatement.<\/p>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/analysis-why-was-ecohealth-alliances-grant-reinstated-despite-groups-apparent-failure-to-comply-with-nih-conditions_5259897.html?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge&amp;src_src=partner&amp;src_cmp=ZeroHedge\"><em>Epoch Times<\/em><\/a> noted;<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>The grant, titled \u201cUnderstanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence,\u201d was originally awarded in 2014 by Dr. Anthony Fauci\u2019s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). <\/strong>Under the terms of the grant, EcoHealth Alliance, a government-funded nonprofit that purportedly engages in research to prevent pandemics, was awarded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/taggs.hhs.gov\/Detail\/AwardDetail?arg_AwardNum=R01AI110964&amp;arg_ProgOfficeCode=104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>$3.8 million<\/span><\/a><span> over five years to assess the spillover potential of bat viruses \u201cusing reverse genetics, pseudovirus and receptor binding assays, and virus infection experiments in cell culture and humanized mice.\u201d Put in simple terms, NIAID was paying EcoHealth to genetically engineer and manipulate bat viruses in labs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/daszak%203a.jpeg?itok=JME21XS2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>In May 2016, the grant was suspended after Erik Stemmy, a NIAID program officer, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HansMahncke\/status\/1656300666296360960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>noticed<\/span><\/a><span> that <strong>federal government funds may have been used for prohibited gain-of-function experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China.<\/strong> At the time, the Obama administration had put in place a moratorium on gain-of-function experiments. However, for reasons that remain unclear, the suspension was lifted in July 2016. At the time, EcoHealth\u2019s president, Peter Daszak, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HansMahncke\/status\/1466929344065032193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>thanked<\/span><\/a><span> NIAID in an email for lifting the gain-of-function funding pause.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>As part of the conditions of the grant, EcoHealth had to file regular activity reports. However, starting in 2018, <\/span>EcoHealth stopped submitting these reports<span>. EcoHealth would later <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2022\/03\/03\/wuhan-coronavirus-research-nih-ecohealth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>blame<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>technical difficulties <strong>for their failure to submit<\/strong>. The missing reports comprised the critical 2018\u20132019 timeframe right before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 *\u00a0 *<\/p>\n<p>More:<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Obama administration temporarily suspended federal funding for <strong>gain-of-function research<\/strong> into manipulating bat COVID to be more transmissible to humans. Four months prior to that decision, the NIH effectively shifted this research to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) to <a href=\"https:\/\/projectreporter.nih.gov\/project_info_description.cfm?aid=9819304&amp;icde=49752569\">EcoHealth<\/a>, headed by Peter Daszak.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, <strong>the WIV &#8220;had openly participated in gain-of-function research in partnership with U.S. universities and institutions&#8221;<\/strong> for years under the leadership of Dr. Shi &#8216;Batwoman&#8217; Zhengli, according to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2021\/03\/08\/josh-rogin-chaos-under-heaven-wuhan-lab-book-excerpt-474322\">Washington Post<\/a>&#8216;s <\/em>Josh Rogin.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, after Sars-CoV-2 broke out in the same town where Daszak was manipulating Bat Covid, <em>The Lancet <\/em>published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(20)30418-9\/fulltext#%20\">screed<\/a> by Daszak (signed by over two-dozen scientists), which insisted the virus could have <em>only<\/em> come from a natural spillover event, likely from a wet market, and that the scientists &#8220;<strong>stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories<\/strong> suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.&#8221; <em>The Lancet<\/em> only later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(21)01377-5\/fulltext\">noted<\/a> Daszak&#8217;s conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, as we noted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/senate-report-concludes-covid-came-research-related-incident\">late last year<\/a>, a Senate Committee on Health Education, Labor and Pensions interim report from October 27, 2022 titled \u201cAn Analysis of the Origins of the COVID19 Pandemic\u201d concluded that the origins of Covid were more likely based in a lab as part of a \u201cresearch related incident\u201d and not zoonotic.<\/p>\n<p>The report was the result of a \u201cbipartisan Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee oversight effort into the origins of SARS-CoV-2\u201d.
