Award-Winning Comedy Writer Has Edinburgh Show Cancelled Because Of Views On Gender<\/span><\/p>\n

A sold out comedy show scheduled to take place at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been cancelled by a venue which cites complaints about one of the comedian\u2019s previous statements on transgender self-identification as the reason.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

It has been\u00a0widely reported<\/a>\u00a0that the show at the world\u2019s most renowned comedy event, which would have featured award winning comedy writer Graham Linehan, was pulled by the Leith Arches venue when it realised the production did \u201cnot align with our overall values\u201d.<\/p>\n

The venue admitted that it had no idea about the show until a mob of \u2018activists\u2019 started complaining to them about it.<\/p>\n

The show was organised by Comedy Unleashed, an organisation run by GB News host Andrew Doyle and comic writer Andy Shaw, which specifically caters for comedians who \u201cleave their self censorship button at the door\u201d.<\/p>\n

Our Comedy Unleashed gig at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been CANCELLED by our venue following online pressure.<\/p>\n

It is astonishing that a comedy night at the largest arts festival in the world should be prevented from going ahead, simply because activists are offended.<\/p>\n

Shaw commented \u201cWe\u2019re very much against this cancel culture because we think it\u2019s killing the arts and it\u2019s treating the audience like children who need mollycoddling.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAndrew Doyle and I set Comedy Unleashed up because we\u2019re sick of this. We want the extroverts, we want all the crazy stuff, we want people to be free and treat the audience like they\u2019re adults.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added \u201cIf there\u2019s any venue out there who wants an audience of 150 people \u2013 we\u2019re sold out \u2013 we will bring our audience and our pre-packaged act to your venue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Comedian Graham Linehan’s Edinburgh show was cancelled by the venue because of his views on trans issues.<\/p>\n

Linehan has made his\u00a0views on the trans issue<\/a>\u00a0and cancel culture abundantly clear in the past, which even led to him\u00a0being suspended from Twitter<\/a>\u00a0in 2020 for posting \u2018hateful content\u2019.<\/p>\n

Linehan responded to the latest cancelation, noting \u201cIt sure sounds like discrimination on the grounds of my legally protected beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edinburgh Fringe is platforming \u2018Blowhole\u2019, a \u201ccelebration of queer life and love\u201d, including \u201cperfecting the perfect bum-hole selfie in the work toilets\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yet, @Glinner<\/a> was cancelled for saying men can\u2019t become women and children shouldn\u2019t be sterilised.<\/p>\n
