Anything goes.<\/a>\u00a0That\u2019s because there\u2019s nobody in the pile to monitor what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Mike Thomas, sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is playing out before our eyes right now should be familiar to any fan of football: it\u2019s called the pile on, a brutal, frenzied, desperate play to seize control and gain power while crushing the opposition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this particular analogy, \u201cwe the people\u201d are trapped at the bottom of that pile, buried under a mountain of bread-and-circus distractions, economic worries, environmental disasters, power plays, power grabs,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/08\/14\/1193676139\/newspaper-marion-county-kansas-police-raid-first-amendment\">police raids<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/08\/15\/trump-indicted-georgia-explained\/https:\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/08\/15\/trump-indicted-georgia-explained\/\">indictments<\/a>\u00a0and circus politics.<\/p>\n<p>The Maui wildfires. The Trump indictments. Hunter Biden\u2019s legal troubles. The looming 2024 presidential election. The Ukraine-Russia conflict.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the midst of this pile on of woes, worries and semi-manufactured crises falling with sledgehammer-like frequency, monopolizing the media narrative and eclipsing all other news, it\u2019s difficult to stay focused on what\u2019s really going on, and yet something is brewing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pay attention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caught up in the partisan boxing match that is politics today, it\u2019s easy to lose sight of what\u2019s real.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The indictments against Trump, the investigation of Hunter Biden, and the chatter of the political classes aren\u2019t real; they are more sound and fury, signifying nothing in the end.<\/p>\n<p>As Aldous Huxley observed in\u00a0<em>Brave New World Revisited<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cNon-stop distractions of the most fascinating nature are deliberately used as instruments of policy, for the purpose of preventing people from paying too much attention to the realities of the social and political situation\u2026 Only the vigilant can maintain their liberties, and only those who are constantly and intelligently on the spot can hope to govern themselves effectively by democratic procedures.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-08-17_17-40-17.jpg?itok=oHr4g5cb\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>So what is real?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s real is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/motors\/8832427\/driving-law-jail-time-thousands-fees-illegal-immigrant\/\">$5,000 fine and five-year jail sentence<\/a>\u00a0that could be levied against anyone found driving an illegal immigrant in their car in the state of Florida.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s real are the hi-tech policing tools such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/08\/10\/ai-surveillance-robotics-police-privacy-new-york-00110672\">robotic dogs equipped with all manner of weaponry and surveillance technology<\/a>\u00a0that are rewriting the ground rules when it comes to privacy and security.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s real is the North Carolina\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.cbn.com\/news\/us\/nc-pastor-fined-60k-housing-homeless-church-property-without-permit\">pastor who was fined $60,000 for ministering to the homeless<\/a>\u00a0on church property without a permit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s real is the revelation that Boston officials\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2023\/07\/14\/michelle-wu-administration-admits-it-sent-a-list-of-vocal-critics-to-police\/\">created and sent police a watch list of the mayor\u2019s most vocal critics<\/a>, not unlike the government\u2019s own growing databases for anti-government dissidents.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s real is what happened in Marion, Kansas, on Fri., Aug. 11, 2023, when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/aug\/15\/joan-meyer-co-owner-kansas-paper-police-raid\">police raided the office of the\u00a0Marion County Record<\/a>, blowing past the constitutional safeguards intended to safeguard the freedom of the press.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you starting to get the picture yet?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The manufactured media spectacles, piled on one after another, have a very real purpose, which is to distract us from the government\u2019s constant encroachments on our freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>In the larger scheme of things, these individual incidents\u2014the police raid of a small-town newspaper, a state ban on who gets to be inside your car, an outrageous fine for feeding the destitute, a politician\u2019s use of an enemies list to silence critics\u2014might easily go unremarked, yet they are all part of the police state\u2019s tendency to pile on: pile on the distractions, pile on the retribution, pile on the show of force in order to completely eviscerate anything that even remotely resembles opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The police state has embarked on a ruthless, take-no-prisoners, all-out assault on anyone who even questions its authority, let alone challenges its chokehold on power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe the people\u201d\u2014the proverbial nails to the police state\u2019s heavy-handed tactics\u2014<em>will<\/em>\u00a0be hammered into compliance, intimidated into subservience, and terrorized into silence.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t matter which party dominates in Congress or the White House: all of us are in danger from these fear-inducing, mind-altering, soul-destroying, smash-your-face-in tactics.<\/p>\n<p>In this way, anarchy is being loosed upon the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Day after day, the government\u2019s crimes against the citizenry grow more egregious, more treacherous and more tragic. And day after day, the prison walls holding the American people captive become ever more inescapable.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming election and its aftermath will undoubtedly keep the citizenry divided and at each other\u2019s throats, so busy fighting each other that they never manage to present a unified front against tyranny in any form.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the winner has already been decided.<\/p>\n<p>As American satirist H.L. Mencken predicted almost a century ago:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cAll the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre \u2014 the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men.
