{"id":1427836,"date":"2023-09-17T12:10:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-17T16:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1427836"},"modified":"2023-09-17T12:10:00","modified_gmt":"2023-09-17T16:10:00","slug":"turkey-could-part-ways-with-the-eu-erdogan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/turkey-could-part-ways-with-the-eu-erdogan\/1427836\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey Could &#8216;Part Ways&#8217; With The EU: Erdogan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Turkey Could &#8216;Part Ways&#8217; With The EU: Erdogan<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thecradle.co\/articles\/turkiye-could-part-ways-with-eu-erdogan\"><em>Via The Cradle,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/turkeys-erdogan-says-country-could-part-ways-with-eu-if-necessary-2023-09-16\/\">\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday that Ankara could \u201cpart ways\u201d with the EU if necessary, following the release of a European Parliament report <strong>rejecting the possibility of Turkey joining the EU soon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The report instead suggested the EU explore \u201ca parallel and realistic framework,\u201d such as a customs union, to determine its ties with Ankara. <strong>\u201cThe EU is trying to break away from Turkiye,\u201d<\/strong> Erdogan told reporters. \u201cWe will make our evaluations against these developments and if necessary, we can part ways with the EU.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/erdeu.jpg?itok=gFq0zw6I\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turkey\u2019s Foreign Ministry said the European Parliament report contained unfounded allegations and prejudices and took \u201ca shallow and non-visionary\u201d approach to the country\u2019s ties with the EU.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visa liberalization, which would give Turkish citizens visa-free travel to the bloc for long periods<\/strong>, is a significant reason Turkey wishes to join the EU. Many Turkish citizens work in EU states, most notably Germany, and EU membership for Turkey would free them of the difficult bureaucratic process needed to obtain visas.<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament report follows renewed Turkish efforts to join the EU.
