{"id":1437097,"date":"2023-11-05T12:35:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T17:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1437097"},"modified":"2023-11-05T12:35:00","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T17:35:00","slug":"the-dutch-are-the-most-likely-to-borrow-their-neighbors-wifi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/the-dutch-are-the-most-likely-to-borrow-their-neighbors-wifi\/1437097\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dutch Are The Most Likely To &#8216;Borrow&#8217; Their Neighbor&#8217;s WiFi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">The Dutch Are The Most Likely To &#8216;Borrow&#8217; Their Neighbor&#8217;s WiFi<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>According to data collected by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/global-consumer-survey\">Statista\u2019s Global Consumer Survey<\/a>, <strong>18 percent of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/2697\/the-netherlands\/\">Dutch<\/a>\u00a0online respondents said that they mainly access their internet at home via their neighbor or landlord\u2019s wireless connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/27816\/neighbors-wifi-useage-in-european-countries-gcs\/\"><em>As Statista&#8217;s Anna Fleck notes, <\/em><\/a>this is more than double the rate of people in the other selected countries, with neighboring Germany and France both at seven percent.<\/p>\n<p>According to the survey, <strong>only 38 percent of respondents in the Netherlands had access to broadband and an additional 16 percent a mobile connection<\/strong> via smartphone or tablet in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/27816\/neighbors-wifi-useage-in-european-countries-gcs\/\" title=\"Infographic: The People Most Likely to \"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/760\/united-states\/\">United States<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/755\/uk\/\">United Kingdom<\/a>\u00a0had lower rates of adults using their neighbors WiFi, at four percent and two percent, respectively. <strong>The U.S. also had a relatively low share of people with broadband, at 38 percent, while the UK\u2019s was higher at 68 percent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the reasons for this discrepancy are not fully clear from the data alone, <strong>it\u2019s interesting to note that breaking into an encrypted WiFi is not a criminal offense in the Netherlands,<\/strong> even though it is in other countries.
