{"id":1444525,"date":"2023-12-18T13:40:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T18:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1444525"},"modified":"2023-12-18T13:40:00","modified_gmt":"2023-12-18T18:40:00","slug":"risk-asset-tailwinds-grow-as-global-liquidity-ends-year-on-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/risk-asset-tailwinds-grow-as-global-liquidity-ends-year-on-high\/1444525\/","title":{"rendered":"Risk-Asset Tailwinds Grow As Global Liquidity Ends Year On High"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Risk-Asset Tailwinds Grow As Global Liquidity Ends Year On High<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><em>Authored by Simon White, Bloomberg macro strategist,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Global liquidity is ending the year on a very strong footing, supporting risk assets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Liquidity conditions for most of this year have generally been favorable, but they have received a boost in recent weeks from the Federal Reserve and the PBOC, ensuring that the end of this year and the start of 2024 will be even more liquidity friendly.<\/p>\n<p>Global excess liquidity \u2013 the difference between real M1 growth and economic growth for the G10 in USD terms \u2013 was on the cusp of rolling over. <strong>However, the Fed\u2019s abrupt dovish pivot last week will lift excess liquidity through a weaker dollar, as well as supporting global money growth by the\u00a0green light\u00a0it gave to an end to \u201chigher for longer\u201d for the major DM central banks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-12-18_05-14-36.jpg?itok=ZGCAXvSy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Moreover, in the US, reserves continue to rise.<\/strong> Despite quantitative tightening, reserves are higher than they were when QT started last year, with that rise accelerating in recent weeks. <strong>Reserves have increased over $100 billion in the last three weeks, driven almost wholly by a\u00a0decline in the reverse repo\u00a0(RRP) facility, as money market funds draw down on it to buy t-bills.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-12-18_05-15-17.jpg?itok=5iIYEsVp\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fall in the Treasury\u2019s account at the Fed of around $60 billion in the last three weeks has negated what would have been a ~$70 billion decline in reserves from QT.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In China, liquidity is being added at an increasing rate.<\/strong> Net injections of liquidity by the PBOC from repo and the medium-term lending facility have risen sharply in recent months, and sit at just under CNY 4 trillion on a 12-month sum basis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2023-12-18_05-16-22.jpg?itok=Si_0fM7g\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s data has been dismal.
