They <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/netflix-might-be-forced-raise-prices-again-after-hollywood-strike\">increased monthly subscriptions<\/a> to improve &#8216;profitability&#8217; and have triggered the beginnings of what appears to be a <strong>cancellation wave<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A new report from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/americans-are-canceling-more-of-their-streaming-services-fb9284c8\"><em>The Wall Street Journa<\/em>l<\/a>\u00a0cites data from subscription analytics provider Antenna that shows <strong>customer defections across streaming services topped 6.3% in November, up from 5.1% a year earlier.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-01-03_07-45-37.png?itok=ogRJ6JdK\"><em>Source: The Wall Street Journal\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Antenna said about one-quarter of US subscribers to these major platforms, also including Discovery+, Max, Paramount+, Peacock, and Starz, have <strong>canceled at least three subscriptions in the past two years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-01-03_07-46-11.png?itok=fywp9V6e\"><em>Source: The Wall Street Journal\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This comes as &#8216;<strong>streamflation<\/strong>&#8216; hits consumers&#8217; wallets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-01-03_07-33-55.png?itok=hLLHljvg\"><em>Source: The Wall Street Journal\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the streaming services increasing their rates like they are, it&#8217;s, like, &#8216;OK, do I pay for the cable?'&#8221; said one person who spoke with WSJ.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some folks have downgraded plans of major streaming services for more ads and limiting the number of devices:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>More than <strong>one-third of new US Netflix customers in November opted for the ad tier,<\/strong> compared with 11% a year earlier, when the ad-supported version was introduced. Streamers say ad-supported plans are a win-win for them and price-sensitive customers, bringing in revenue from monthly subscriptions as well as ad sales. -WSJ\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-01-03_07-47-04.png?itok=AW93CV79\"><em>Source: The Wall Street Journal\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Antenna said some customers who canceled streaming services return later:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>One in four people who cancel a premium streaming service typically resubscribes to that service within four months, and one in three does so within seven months.
