According to one outlet with correspondents in the region, parts of Belgorod appear like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2024\/01\/10\/unprecedented-cross-border-strikes-rattle-russias-belgorod-a83679\">a ghost town<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And CNN cites the following statement from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/08\/europe\/russia-ukraine-belgorod-evacuations-strikes-intl\/index.html\">authorities<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>In Monday\u2019s message, Gladkov said his office <strong>had received 1,300 applications to send children from Belgorod to school camps in other regions<\/strong>, and that his colleagues from the regions of Voronezh, Kaluga, Tambov, and Yaroslavl \u2013 some distance from Belgorod \u2013 are \u201cready to help us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shelling has pummeled the city center, and even areas with Christmas marketplaces, causing residents to avoid all central areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Today, 392 schoolchildren from Belgorod will go to out-of-town health camps in the Voronezh and Kaluga regions for 21 days,&#8221;<\/strong> Belgorod mayor Valentin Demidov announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/belgattacks.jpg?itok=mayAIQrk\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>City residents say it feels like there&#8217;s nowhere to hide from the random, sporadic shelling and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20240110-nowhere-is-safe-russian-city-evacuates-hundreds-of-children\">attacks<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Nowhere is safe,&#8221; <\/strong>42-year-old kindergarten teacher Evgenia Savenko told AFP, as she walked through the city&#8217;s main square with her preschool-age son.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It can happen anywhere &#8212; at home or in a neighboring town,&#8221; she said. &#8220;The fear is always present. It never goes away.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And another eyewitness:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Every day they bomb, in the morning and in the evening,&#8221; <\/strong>said 83-year-old pensioner Nina Tikhonova, whose neighbour&#8217;s house was damaged by shelling.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;My acquaintances took their children to Ivanovo,&#8221; a Russian city some 250 kilometres (155 miles) northeast of the capital Moscow, she said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/emtpycrhistmascenter.jpg?itok=y5aPTUYu\"><em>Largely empty city square after cross-border attacks disrupted Christmas celebrations.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Russian government has vowed to do everything possible to stave off the attacks and protect the citizenry; however, so far there&#8217;s been nothing new other than &#8216;revenge&#8217; strikes on Ukrainian cities.
