They deserve to be fired<\/strong>,\u201d Mr. Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerJohnson\/status\/1746541503269269584\">said<\/a> in a Jan. 14 post on X (formerly Twiter). \u201cOversight Chairman Comer and I will be working together to ensure that each federal agency initiates appropriate disciplinary proceedings against any person who walks out on their job,\u201d he added, referring to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%281352%29.jpg?itok=y8Pyxh-Y\"><em>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) speaks during a news conference following the House Republican caucus meeting at the US Capitol in Washington on Nov. 29, 2023. (Jim Watson\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The House Speaker\u2019s comments came in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Joyce_Karam\/status\/1745928683578065252\">tweet<\/a> by Joyce Karam, the senior news editor at Al-Monitor, saying that \u201c<strong>hundreds of U.S. gov. employees plan walkout on Tuesday over Biden\u2019s Gaza policies.<\/strong>\u201d In total, workers from 22 government agencies are expected to be involved in the walkout, she said in a Jan. 13 post.<\/p>\n<p>A list <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2024\/01\/us-government-employees-plan-walkout-over-bidens-gaza-policies\">obtained<\/a> by Al-Monitor showed that departments involved in the walkout include the National Security Agency, the Executive Office of the President, the Naval Research Laboratory, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Departments of State, Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A walkout by federal employees could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/striking-against-the-federal-government-is-a-felony\/\">count<\/a> as a strike, which is prohibited per law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Title 5 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/5\/7311\">Section<\/a> 7311 of the U.S. Code states: \u201cAn individual may not accept or hold a position in the Government of the United States or the government of the District of Columbia if he \u2026 participates in a strike, or asserts the right to strike, against the Government of the United States or the government of the District of Columbia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, Title 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/1918\">Section<\/a> 1918 prescribes the punishment for such an action. Violators of Section 7311 \u201cshall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year and a day, or both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govexec.com\/management\/2019\/01\/why-feds-dont-strike\/154438\/\">strike<\/a> by federal employees over four decades ago triggered government action. In 1981, around 13,000 air traffic controllers took part in a strike over pay and work schedules.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, President Reagan declared the strike to be a \u201cperil to national safety,\u201d fired 11,000 workers, and barred them from ever joining the federal government again.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Day of Mourning\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The walkout is being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2024\/01\/us-government-employees-plan-walkout-over-bidens-gaza-policies\">organized<\/a> by a group called \u201cFeds United for Peace\u201d who claim that they will mark 100 days of Israel\u2019s operations in Gaza by observing a \u201cday of mourning.\u201d The organizers remained anonymous.<\/p>\n<p>One of the organizers of the walkout told Al-Monitor that their initiative \u201cgrew out of a collective desire to do what we could to influence the Biden administration\u2019s policy on this issue \u2026 What you\u2019re seeing with this effort is something very unusual, and that is for dissent to be manifested via a physical act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamas\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/world\/liberal-mps-divided-as-israel-faces-genocide-accusation-in-un-court-5563292\">attack<\/a> in Israel on Oct. 7 had killed around 1,200 individuals and led to the kidnapping of roughly 240 people. It is this attack that triggered the current Israel-Gaza conflict. In October, Israel launched a ground offensive in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Africa has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/world\/israel-rejects-genocide-charges-tells-world-court-it-must-defend-itself-5564473\">accused<\/a> Israel of committing state-led genocide against Palestinians, <\/strong>claiming at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that the offensive has led to the deaths of almost 24,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>In a Jan. 11 X <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LiorHaiat\/status\/1745427037039280207\">post<\/a>, Lior Haiat, a spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, called South Africa\u2019s claims \u201cone of the greatest shows of hypocrisy in history, compounded by a series of false and baseless claims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>South Africa \u201ccompletely ignored the fact that Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel, murdered, executed, massacred, raped, and abducted Israeli citizens, simply because they were Israelis, in an attempt to carry out genocide,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamas\u2019 representatives in the court, the South African lawyers, are also ignoring the fact that Hamas uses the civilian population in Gaza as human shields and operates from within hospitals, schools, UN shelters, mosques, and churches with the intention of endangering the lives of the residents of the Gaza Strip.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Pro-Hamas Stance<\/h2>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time that federal employees have been entangled in a controversy over the Israel-Hamas conflict.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 28, Sen.
