Charlice Byrd (R) in a Jan. 26 statement accompanying the introduction of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/66326\">H.R. 872<\/a>, <strong>a resolution to vote on impeachment charges against Willis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With freedom on the line, bold action is necessary. It&#8217;s time for the legislature to do its constitutional duty and hold corrupt Fulton DA Fani WIllis accountable, which is why I have introduced H.R. 872, articles of impeachment against Fani WIllis. Charlice Byrd (@charlice_byrd) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/charlice_byrd\/status\/1750858059633619147?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 26, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Willis brought a 2020 election interference case against former President Trump and over a dozen co-defendants under Georgia laws intended to fight organized crime. In particular, Trump asked Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to &#8216;find&#8217; votes for him. The context, however, was that Trump was commenting on all the votes &#8216;found&#8217; for Biden in the middle of the night, so &#8216;find&#8217; Trump votes in the same vein.<\/p>\n<p>Byrd&#8217;s 10-page resolution lays out the case against Willis, accusing her of violating her oath of office which states that &#8220;Any public officer who willfully and intentionally violates the terms of his oath as prescribed by law shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than five years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>The impeachment resolution comes on the same day that the Georgia State Senate voted to establish a committee that will investigate various allegations of misconduct against Ms. Willis, ranging from accusations of prosecutorial misconduct to questions about the use of public funds and allegations of an unprofessional relationship with the lead prosecutor in the case.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ms. Willis\u2019 office did not respond to a request for comment on the impeachment resolution by press time. &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/articles-of-impeachment-filed-against-fulton-county-da-fani-willis-5574609?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge&amp;src_src=partner&amp;src_cmp=ZeroHedge\">Epoch Times<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>More via the <em>Epoch Times<\/em>:<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>Articles of Impeachment<\/h2>\n<p>The impeachment resolution accuses Ms. Willis of having committed \u201cacts of malfeasance, tyrannical partiality, and oppression\u201d in the \u201cwrongful\u201d indictment of President Trump and his 18 co-defendants (now down to 14 since four have pleaded guilty).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>The resolution calls Ms. Willis\u2019 indictment \u201cthe severest case of gross abuse of discretion\u201d while alleging that the Fulton County DA \u201cgrossly violated\u201d her oath of office, in which she swore to be impartial.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Byrd\u2019s impeachment resolution also accuses Ms. Willis of engaging in an \u201cinappropriate\u201d and \u201cunethical\u201d relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade while alleging that she profited from the relationship.<\/p>\n<p>There are a total of 22 articles of impeachment in the resolution, each an alleged violation of Georgia Code 16-10-1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nineteen of the impeachment charges are allegations that Ms. Willis\u2019 prosecution of President Trump and the 18 other co-defendants under Georgia\u2019s organized crime laws was done for the purpose of advancing her political career and so \u201cgrossly violates\u201d her oath of office.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%281466%29.jpg?itok=rkA9jK5B\"><em>Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Atlanta on Aug. 14, 2023; Fulton County District Attorney Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade at the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta, on Oct. 20, 2023. (Joe Raedle; Alyssa Pointer\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the resolution doesn\u2019t go into detail about the allegedly political nature of the prosecution, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/house-republicans-probe-georgias-prosecution-of-trump-decrying-impact-on-free-speech-and-elections-5480010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similar claims<\/a> have been made by House investigators.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining three articles of impeachment are for allegedly perpetrating \u201cprosecutorial vindictiveness\u201d in withholding material evidence from the jury, allegedly falsely claiming she was \u201cnot the holder of any unaccounted for public money due the state\u201d while owing late fees stemming from her candidacy for office; and of swearing in her oath of office to take \u201conly my lawful compensation\u201d while allegedly profiting from her relationship with Mr. Wade.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ms. Willis was first accused of having an \u201cimproper\u201d romantic relationship with Mr. Wade and of benefiting from it financially in a motion filed on Jan. 8 by an attorney representing Michael Roman, one of the co-defendants in the Georgia case.<\/p>\n<h2>The Allegations<\/h2>\n<p>Ashleigh Merchant, the attorney, accused Ms. Willis in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fultonclerk.org\/DocumentCenter\/View\/3814\/61-MOTION-1-8-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100-plus page filing<\/a>\u00a0of being in an \u201cimproper, clandestine personal relationship\u201d with Mr. Wade and of \u201cprofiting significantly\u201d from the relationship at the expense of taxpayers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ms. Merchant also accused Ms. Willis of using funds meant for clearing a pandemic-era backlog of cases in Fulton County to pay Mr. Wade a large sum of money.<\/p>\n<p>Documents show Mr. Wade has been paid at a rate of $250 per hour for his involvement in the case, or around $650,000 in total.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Wade, who has been asked to provide evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/house-judiciary-committee-launches-inquiry-into-fani-willis-special-trump-prosecutor-5564366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as part of<\/a> a House Judiciary Committee inquiry into Ms. Willis\u2019 conduct, is playing a leading role in the election interference case against the former president and the co-defendants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prosecutors have not yet filed a response to Ms. Merchant\u2019s motion, although they have said they intend to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fulton County Audit Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/top-auditor-demands-georgia-da-fani-willis-answer-questions-over-allegations-5570540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has asked<\/a> Ms. Willis to address the allegations in Ms. Merchant\u2019s filing.
