Her despair came while \u201cshe began doing research for one of her classes,\u00a0<em>Creative Climate Communication.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI started to get that terrible ooze feeling, that comes in like a sickness that you get from despair. It was like swallowing crude oil or something,\u201d Osnes told the news station.<strong> \u201cJust the knowledge of what\u2019s happening to our planet, it feels almost disabling. <\/strong>It almost puts your heart on the ground. And we can\u2019t address the climate crisis if our hearts are on the ground.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cIn fact, the emotions that Osnes is describing \u2014 feeling helpless and despair around the climate crisis \u2014 have a name: climate anxiety,\u201d <\/strong>CPR reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She performs her \u201cButterfly Affect Experience\u201d \u201cto inspire a collective commitment to co-create a world that is equitable, sustainable, and conducive to thriving life and ecosystems,\u201d according to promotional material for a recent performance.<\/p>\n<p>Florida State University Professor Sarah Fahmy also partakes, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/butterflies.org\/the-butterfly-affect-experience\/\">event description<\/a>. Fahmy previously studied at CU Boulder.<\/p>\n<p>Osnes also produced a \u201cclimate musical\u201d for young people to perform, according to her faculty bio and founded a group \u201cfor female and non-binary youth vocal empowerment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The performance does help her cope with her grief from losing her spouse, as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI was widowed two years ago and I had to do a complete re-changing of myself \u2026 We can learn from the natural world that change doesn\u2019t have to be scary, it can be beautiful even after loss,\u201d Osnes said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most of her scholarship focuses on the intersection between creative arts and climate change.<\/p>\n<p><em>Published papers include, \u201cLens on Climate Change: Making Climate Meaningful Through Student-Produced Videos,\u201d \u201cA Laughing Matter? Confronting climate change through humor,\u201d and \u201cExamining Climate Change and Sustainable\/Fast Fashion in the 21st century: \u2018Trash the Runway.&#8217;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Young America\u2019s Foundation, which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/yaf.org\/news\/to-relieve-climate-anxiety-this-colorado-professor-pretends-shes-a-butterfly\/\">first reported<\/a>\u00a0on Osnes, commented that \u201c\u2018Climate anxiety\u2019 has been peddled by the Left for decades.
