{"id":1457502,"date":"2024-02-15T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T18:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1457502"},"modified":"2024-02-15T13:55:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T18:55:00","slug":"biden-mis-remembered-again-hur-never-brought-up-beaus-death-the-president-did","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/biden-mis-remembered-again-hur-never-brought-up-beaus-death-the-president-did\/1457502\/","title":{"rendered":"Biden &#8216;Mis-Remembered&#8217; Again: Hur Never Brought Up Beau&#8217;s Death, The President Did"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Biden &#8216;Mis-Remembered&#8217; Again: Hur Never Brought Up Beau&#8217;s Death, The President Did<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Hours after last week&#8217;s release of special counsel Robert Hur&#8217;s report on Biden&#8217;s handling of classified documents &#8212; which described<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>the president<strong> <\/strong>as<strong> <\/strong>a &#8220;well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory&#8221; and &#8220;diminished faculties&#8221; &#8212; <strong>Team Biden pushed their man in front of reporters in a hopeless bid to demonstrate that his mind is fully intact.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It backfired in various ways, most notably when\u00a0<strong>Biden referred to Egyptian President Sissi as the president of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/world\/north-america\/biden-wilfully-retained-classified-materials-but-no-criminal-charges-warranted-20240209-p5f3lt.html\">Mexico<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; in a week in which he&#8217;d already twice confused the dead male German chancellor Helmut Kohl with the living female Angela Merkel, and confused the late French president Fran\u00e7ois Mitterand with President Emmanuel Macron.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, sources say <strong>a more significant Biden statement during that press conference was also false.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First, some more background. In addition to not remembering what years he served as vice president, the special counsel report said that, in his interview with investigators, <strong>Biden &#8220;did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died.&#8221; <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At his press conference, Biden lashed out at Hur for insensitively grilling him about Beau&#8217;s death from cancer at age 46:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI know there\u2019s some attention paid to some language in the report about my recollection of events. There\u2019s even a reference that I don\u2019t remember when my son died. <strong>How in the hell dare he raise that? Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself, it wasn\u2019t any of their damn business.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How in the hell dare he raise that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>President Biden slams Special Counsel Robert Hur&#8217;s claim that he struggled to remember details about his son Beau&#8217;s death. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2d4sAlRuDC\">pic.twitter.com\/2d4sAlRuDC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MSNBC (@MSNBC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSNBC\/status\/1755771625507639537?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 9, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Big Media ran with Biden&#8217;s narrative.<\/strong> For example, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/08\/us\/politics\/biden-special-counsel-beaus-death.html\"><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a>, an utterly credulous, unquestioning Katie Rogers &#8212; sounding every bit like a Biden campaign proxy &#8212; devoted an article to Biden&#8217;s Beau-centered attack on Hur, describing Biden&#8217;s &#8220;chin quivering either from anger or sadness.&#8221; In what&#8217;s positioned as a straight news article, she concluded with this state-media salute:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>A president who has infused his son\u2019s memory into his presidency wanted to make one thing clear, to both the special counsel\u2019s office and to his critics. \u201cI don\u2019t need anyone to remind me when he passed away,\u201d Mr. Biden said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rogers and other <strong>&#8220;journalists&#8221; covering the story didn&#8217;t even entertain the possibility that Biden &#8212; who routinely invokes Beau in various remarks to secure the sympathy of his audience &#8212; was the one who brought Beau&#8217;s death up<\/strong> during the 5-hour special counsel interview.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, citing\u00a0two sources with knowledge of the interview,<em> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/biden-attacked-hur-asking-beau-died-didnt-happen-sources-say-rcna138709\">NBC News<\/a><\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0reports that it was indeed Biden who raised the topic of his son&#8217;s death.\u00a0<\/strong>They say he did so\u00a0when investigators asked about his activities at his Virginia rental home between 2016 and 2018, a time during which Biden was working with a ghost writer on a memoir about the loss of Beau, who died in 2015:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Biden began trying to recall that period by discussing what else was happening in his life, and it was at that point in the interview that <strong>he appeared confused about when Beau died,<\/strong> the sources said.
