{"id":1458788,"date":"2024-02-22T19:25:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T00:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1458788"},"modified":"2024-02-22T19:25:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T00:25:00","slug":"venezuela-blocks-flights-carrying-deported-migrants-from-us-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/venezuela-blocks-flights-carrying-deported-migrants-from-us-mexico\/1458788\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela Blocks Flights Carrying Deported Migrants From US, Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Venezuela Blocks Flights Carrying Deported Migrants From US, Mexico<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Venezuela has <strong>blocked flights of migrants deported from the United States and Mexico<\/strong>, undermining one of the few policies the Biden administration had recently embraced to deal with record levels of illegal immigration, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/americas\/venezuela-halts-flights-of-deported-migrants-from-u-s-and-mexico-962f6149\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>, citing people familiar with the measures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/immigration-impact-secret-flights_jpg_92.jpg?itok=M_U3MlYP\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;almost weekly&#8217; flights from the US to Veneuela were halted in late January according to US officials, marking the longest pause in repatriation since the two countries announced a landmark deal to restart deportations in October &#8211; after roughly 1,800 Venezuelans were returned home on 15 flights. As the <em>Journal<\/em> notes, <strong>this is but a fraction of the nearly 500,000 Venezuelans detained at the southern US border over the past two years. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In short, the move gets in the way of the Biden administration pretending they&#8217;ve been taking action, and now gives them something to blame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-k3zb6l-Paragraph e1e4oisd0\"><em><strong>The flights to Venezuela were intended to send a signal to migrants that they would face <a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink el06won0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/americas\/u-s-to-resume-deportations-of-venezuelan-migrants-78e7cdaf\">significant deportation risks<\/a> if they crossed the border illegally<\/strong>, potentially easing some of the pressure on President Biden, whose poll ratings are suffering ahead of November\u2019s presidential election because of the immigration issue.
