{"id":1459945,"date":"2024-02-29T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1459945"},"modified":"2024-02-29T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T15:00:00","slug":"russias-lng-cargoes-bound-for-china-avoid-the-red-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/russias-lng-cargoes-bound-for-china-avoid-the-red-sea\/1459945\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia&#8217;s LNG Cargoes Bound For China Avoid The Red Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Russia&#8217;s LNG Cargoes Bound For China Avoid The Red Sea<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><em>By Charles Kennedy of <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Russias-LNG-Cargoes-Bound-for-China-Avoid-the-Red-Sea.html\">OilPrice.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Russia has started diverting its LNG cargoes away from the Suez Canal and is using the longer route to China via the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, amid a higher risk of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, according to LSEG data cited by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/articles\/russia-diverts-lng-supplies-for-asia-around-africa-to-avoid-red-sea-lseg-data-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Russian%20tanker%20big_3.jpg?itok=SeE-JDm9\"><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The longer route from Russia\u2019s Yamal LNG project to China via Africa instead of the Suez Canal adds around 10 days to the travel time for LNG cargoes to reach their destinations in China and return to Russia, tying up more LNG tankers for longer periods at sea. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This adds to recent struggles of Russia\u2019s top LNG exporter, Novatek, which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Russias-New-LNG-Project-Cant-Begin-Shipments-Before-March.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has yet to begin shipments<\/a>\u00a0from its new export project, Arctic 2 LNG, due to a lack of ships amid tightened U.S. sanctions on the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two of the world\u2019s biggest LNG exporters, the United States and Qatar halted shipments via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal earlier this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Energy\/Natural-Gas\/QatarEnergy-Pauses-LNG-Shipments-In-Red-Sea.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qatar paused<\/a>\u00a0LNG cargo journeys through the Suez Canal in the middle of January, but it assured customers and the market that its LNG output is uninterrupted and Europe should expect longer delivery times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the ongoing developments in the Red Sea area may impact the scheduling of some deliveries as they take alternative routes, LNG shipments from Qatar are being managed with our valued buyers,\u201d QatarEnergy<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qatarenergy.qa\/en\/MediaCenter\/Pages\/newsdetails.aspx?ItemId=3789\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in January.<\/p>\n<p>Now Russia is also avoiding the Red Sea, per LSEG data quoted by Reuters.
