{"id":1460285,"date":"2024-03-01T21:41:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-02T02:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1460285"},"modified":"2024-03-01T21:41:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-02T02:41:52","slug":"us-bank-crisis-looms-as-deposit-outflows-accelerated-last-week-loan-volumes-stagnate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/us-bank-crisis-looms-as-deposit-outflows-accelerated-last-week-loan-volumes-stagnate\/1460285\/","title":{"rendered":"US Bank Crisis Looms As Deposit Outflows Accelerated Last Week, Loan Volumes Stagnate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">US Bank Crisis Looms As Deposit Outflows Accelerated Last Week, Loan Volumes Stagnate<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>With the imminent expiration of The Fed&#8217;s bank bailout facility (reminder they were 12-month collateralized term loans), and with The Fed&#8217;s reverse repo facility see a massive $128BN in liquidity sucked out of it in the last two days, this week&#8217;s excitement over at NYCB again is sure to have seen some depositors question their decisions (but we won&#8217;t know about that for a couple of weeks as The Fed needs time to &#8216;manage&#8217; the data).<\/p>\n<p>RRP&#8217;s collision with the x-axis is right on schedule&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmA57F_0.jpg?itok=RQVlbKrq\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And while The Fed&#8217;s balance sheet continues to contract, we do note that <strong>the pace of contraction has slowed significantly this year&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmD4CD_0.jpg?itok=ZI3KLdr6\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And at the same time, inflows to money-market funds continued to take total assets to fresh record highs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmD30.jpg?itok=eH1r-8Cj\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;as banks saw deposits decline $48BN (SA) last week ($86BN in the last 3 weeks)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfm28CD.jpg?itok=mIUKivZm\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On a <strong>non-seasonally-adjusted basis<\/strong>, total deposits fell $74BN in the week ending 2\/21 <strong>(down $206BN in 2024)<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmE5D0.jpg?itok=y_S1jrK3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And, excluding foreign banks, <strong>domestic deposits dropped $46BN SA<\/strong> (Large Banks -$36BN, Small Banks -$10BN), and <strong>tumbled $69BN NSA<\/strong> (Large Banks -$62BN, Small Banks -$7BN)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmB7F1_0.jpg?itok=OivGb6XG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the ledger, there basically no activity at all in loans from small or large banks. Quite an odd print&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmEEAD.jpg?itok=bYYhvMJx\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>US equity market cap remains dramatically decoupled from bank reserves at The Fed.
