These Are The World’s Largest Armies In 2024<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite being considered the biggest military force<\/strong> in the world, the United States doesn\u2019t have the largest army<\/strong> in terms of personnel.<\/p>\n

Vietnam, India, and South Korea Have the Biggest Armies<\/h2>\n

China has the largest standing army, with over\u00a02 million<\/strong>\u00a0active personnel. With increasing defense spending over the last decades, the country also ranks third in the number of\u00a0tanks<\/a>\u00a0and second in the number of\u00a0aircraft carriers<\/a>\u00a0in service.<\/p>\n

When reserve personnel are included, however, the Chinese military falls behind those of Vietnam, India, South Korea, and Russia.<\/p>\n

Vietnam\u2019s forces include 600,000 active personnel and over\u00a05 million<\/strong>\u00a0in reserve. This is because Vietnam, along with countries like South Korea and Israel, has a standing policy of conscription for young adults.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Interestingly, the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine resulted in a massive increase in Ukrainian personnel numbers. Active personnel rose from around 170,000 in 2016 to over 900,000.<\/p>\n

Despite not having the largest army, the U.S. accounts for almost 40% of global\u00a0military expenditures<\/a>, with its 2022 spending totaling\u00a0$877 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

China ranked second in absolute terms, accounting for another 13% of world military expenditure at\u00a0$292 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
