According to the UN, in 1990, the average number of births per woman globally was 3.2. By 2019, this had fallen to 2.5 births per woman; by 2050, it is expected to decline further to 2.2 births.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, a fertility level of 2.1 births per woman is necessary to avoid a national population decline over the long run (not including net immigration).<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s birth rate has fallen the fastest in recent years among the countries highlighted here. The country registered\u00a0<strong>7.6<\/strong>\u00a0annual births per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to\u00a0<strong>24.4<\/strong>\u00a0in 1990 and\u00a0<strong>41.0<\/strong>\u00a0in 1950.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-06-04_20-47-11.jpg?itok=5Dxtx5zD\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This trend suggests that China could face challenges similar to those faced by Japan, which has a vast senior population and significant economic and social implications.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. registered\u00a0<strong>11.1<\/strong>\u00a0annual births per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to\u00a0<strong>16.7<\/strong>\u00a0in 1990 and\u00a0<strong>22.8<\/strong>\u00a0in 1950.
