{"id":1470207,"date":"2024-06-08T20:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-09T00:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1470207"},"modified":"2024-06-08T20:55:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-09T00:55:00","slug":"new-texas-gop-platform-calls-for-secession-vote-resistance-to-federal-infringements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/new-texas-gop-platform-calls-for-secession-vote-resistance-to-federal-infringements\/1470207\/","title":{"rendered":"New Texas GOP Platform Calls For Secession Vote, Resistance To Federal Infringements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">New Texas GOP Platform Calls For Secession Vote, Resistance To Federal Infringements<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Reflecting plummeting patience with overstepping federal overlords, <strong>the Texas Republican Party has adopted two platform planks that call for legislators to assert state sovereignty, and to schedule a secession referendum<\/strong> in the next general election after November&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This historic vote at the\u00a02024 Republican Party of Texas Convention\u00a0represents a substantial shift towards enhancing state sovereignty and exploring the potential for Texas to operate as an independent nation,&#8221; said the Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.tnm.me\/texit\/texit-updates\/new-texas-gop-platform-pushes-for-state-sovereignty-independence-referendum\/\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;It reflects the growing sentiment among Texans for greater autonomy and the protection of our rights against federal overreach.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Image_20240523_190639_623-e1716535684723.jpeg?itok=Tm3gKh5F\"><strong>Backers of the &#8220;TEXIT&#8221; movement make their stance known at the Texas Republican Convention in San Antonio <\/strong>(via <a href=\"https:\/\/news.tnm.me\/texit\/texit-updates\/texit-movement-dominates-texas-gop-convention\/\">Texas Nationalist Movement<\/a>)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fittingly, that historic vote took place in San Antonio &#8212; home of the Alamo<\/strong>, aka &#8220;the cradle of Texas liberty.&#8221; Though it represented a setback, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thealamo.org\/remember#:~:text=The%20Battle%20of%20the%20Alamo,self-governing%20republic%3A%20Texas.\">1836 Battle of the Alamo<\/a> was a key chapter in the fight for independence that culminated in Texas becoming a self-governing republic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first plank asserts that the US government is infringing on powers reserved to Texas and all other states, and <strong>calls for unwarranted federal laws to be thwarted <\/strong>by Texas government. It also affirms the right of Texas to secede:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPursuant to <a href=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/Docs\/CN\/htm\/CN.1.htm#:~:text=Sec.,unimpaired%20to%20all%20the%20States.\">Article 1, Section 1<\/a>, of the Texas Constitution, <strong>the federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. <\/strong>Therefore, federally mandated <strong>legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas shall be ignored<\/strong>, opposed, refused, and nullified. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Texas retains the right to secede<\/strong> from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should be called upon to pass a referendum consistent thereto and pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/88R\/billtext\/pdf\/HB00384I.pdf\">Texas Sovereignty Act<\/a> as filed in the 88th Legislative Regular Session as HB 384.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second plank is a pointed directive to put the question of secession to the people of Texas in the next general election:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Texas Legislature should pass a bill in its next session <strong>requiring a referendum in the next General Election <\/strong>for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. <strong>This referendum should be a legislative priority.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>From the San Antonio convention, here&#8217;s a brief but interesting clip of the Texas Nationalist Movement&#8217;s Nate Smith speaking in support of the independence-minded platform planks &#8212; and <strong>ably fielding a question from a delegate who suggests TNM is guilty of treason<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>We&#8217;d have liked to hear Smith answer his critic&#8217;s attempted second question &#8212; as to whether Smith had recited the Pledge of Allegiance<\/strong> earlier that day as part of convention rituals. It&#8217;s likely the questioner would have next pointed to the pledge&#8217;s reference to &#8220;one nation&#8230;indivisible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In making a case\u00a0for <a href=\"https:\/\/starkrealities.substack.com\/p\/why-patriots-shouldnt-pledge-allegiance\">why patriots shouldn&#8217;t pledge allegiance<\/a>, Brian McGlinchey has argued that, of several objectionable components of the pledge, &#8220;&#8216;indivisible&#8217; should give greatest offense to American patriots. The very existence of the United States &#8212; created by secession from the British empire &#8212; is a testament to political divisibility as a foundational human right&#8230;<strong>By reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and proclaiming the United States of America &#8216;indivisible,&#8217; Americans disclaim their human right of self-determination.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Texas Nationalist Movement&#8217;s GOP convention success comes on the heels of a state Republican Party controversy over the issue. <strong>Despite TNM having amassed more than 139,000 signatures requesting that a secession question be placed on the March 5 primary ballot, the Texas GOP&#8217;s leadership refused<\/strong> to include it. TNM appealed to the state supreme court, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2024-01-11\/texas-supreme-court-wont-take-up-secessionist-groups-push-to-get-texit-measure-on-gop-ballot\">refused<\/a> to hear the controversy.<\/p>\n<p>The party chair who presided over that decision, Matt Rinaldi, is out. <strong>Now, party&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacurrent.com\/news\/pro-texit-candidates-win-texas-gops-top-two-leadership-spots-at-san-antonio-convention-34670676\">top two officials<\/a> are both signers of the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/taketexasback.com\/pledge\/\">Texas First Pledge<\/a>.&#8221; <\/strong>In addition to promising to place the interest of Texans &#8220;before any other\u00a0nation, state, political entity, organization, or individual,&#8221; signatories commit to bringing about a secession referendum and, if it is approved by a majority of Texans, to work for an expeditious exit from the union.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The TNM is constantly looking for new members to join our ranks.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to pledge your support for TEXIT, you can do so here<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2CLOGuWMtQ\">https:\/\/t.co\/2CLOGuWMtQ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Texas Nationalist Movement (TEXIT) (@TexasNatMov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TexasNatMov\/status\/1799154429892936133?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After seceding from Mexico,\u00a0<strong>Texas was an independent country from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/summary\/Texas-state\">1836 to 1845<\/a>\u00a0and, economically, is\u00a0extraordinarily well-suited for independence today<\/strong>. It&#8217;s by far the\u00a0largest oil producer of any US state, accounting for a whopping\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/financial-edge\/0511\/top-6-oil-producing-states.aspx\">42%<\/a>\u00a0of American production, with no other state exceeding even 10%.
