Residents of Wethersfield Connecticut gathered Monday at a town hall to confront the mayor and other council officials over a decision to refuse a request to fly a \u2018thin blue line\u2019 flag in honour of a fallen police officer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

As we highlighted, council officials claimed the pro police flag was \u2018racist and antagonistic\u2019, and decided that lowering a LGBTQ flag to half staff was enough of an honour for\u00a0Aaron Pelletier, who was killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n

Critics charged that the move epitomises the utter state of towns and cities under Democrat control.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the meeting,\u00a0Deputy Mayor Matthew Forrest claimed\u00a0\u201cOur Wethersfield Town Council and the entire community stands with the police.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others disagreed, including\u00a0Debbie Garten, the mother of Deputy Robert \u201cBobby\u201d Garten,\u00a0who was also killed in the line of duty in September 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mrs Garten urged that\u00a0\u201cIt was disheartening to witness the news coverage and hear the disrespectful and hurtful remarks being made by some town council members, especially as the wake and funeral for Trooper First Class Pelletier was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThe thin blue line holds a deeply personal meaning for me, as a tribute to my son\u2019s service and sacrifice,\u201d before calling for the flag to be flown for two whole weeks next May to mark\u00a0National Police Week and the Connecticut police memorial ceremony.<\/p>\n

Will Garten, the brother of Deputy Garten called the mayor \u201cdisgusting,\u201d and noted that the official hasn\u2019t even mentioned his name at all.<\/p>\n

Last week, City Council of Wethersfield, CT voted against flying a Thin Blue Line flag to memorialize their fallen officers.<\/p>\n

Instead, the town flew a PRIDE FLAG.<\/p>\n

Some of the town officials have complained that since the incident with the Pride flag and the refusal to fly the thin blue line, they have received\u00a0\u201cvulgar\u201d messages and even death threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cA large number of these communications can easily be described as disturbing and vulgar,\u201d\u00a0town manager\u00a0Fred Presley claimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome have wished physical harm and even death to council members and staff. A handful have reached the level of directly threatening individual council members and their families,\u201d Presley added.<\/p>\n
