The island also has a high obesity rate, and nearly one-third of the population suffers from diabetes, due to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/goatsandsoda\/2015\/09\/22\/442545313\/the-people-of-nauru-want-to-get-healthy-so-why-cant-they-succeed\">poor nutritional variety<\/a>\u00a0in the food supply.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a list of smoking rates by country, ranked from highest to lowest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-06-22_14-10-07.jpg?itok=CJ4uU0g2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: Figures rounded. \u201cTobacco use\u201d includes smoke and smokeless products.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, countries in the\u00a0<strong>Balkan<\/strong>\u00a0also see a high incidence of tobacco use, bucking the general European trend. Entrenched cultural norms, lax laws, and inexpensive cigarettes are some of the most\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/emerging-europe.com\/news\/why-culture-makes-smoking-a-hard-habit-for-the-western-balkans-to-kick\/\">commonly identified causes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, tobacco use is a lot lower in the Americas and sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., fewer than one in four adults smoke. Canada is even lower at 12% of the population.
