567,000 Portable Chargers Sold At Costco Recalled After Reports Of Fires<\/span><\/p>\n

Around 567,000 portable chargers sold at Costco have been recalled after reports that they can overheat while charging, posing fire risks,<\/strong> the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Michigan-based myCharge recalled its HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable chargers with model numbers AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B, and AO10FK-C, according to a notice<\/a> posted on the commission\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

The recalled items, manufactured in China, were sold exclusively at Costco stores nationwide and online from January 2022 through November 2023 for about $40.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe portable chargers are black and include two attached cables for charging portable electronic devices, and retractable wall prongs to recharge the power bank<\/strong>,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n

The commission said there have been 120 reports involving the portable chargers overheating.<\/strong> This includes five incidents, two of which were residential fires, that caused about $165,000 in reported property damage.<\/p>\n

It added that Costco received \u201c115 returns of the portable chargers mentioning melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking.\u201d<\/p>\n

No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled items.<\/p>\n

Consumers who purchased the recalled portable chargers are advised to immediately stop using them and contact myCharge for a free replacement.<\/p>\n

The commission emphasized that the disposal of recalled lithium-ion batteries must be made in accordance with local and state ordinances due to their potential hazards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDo not throw this recalled battery in the trash. <\/strong>Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n

Previous Recall of Portable Chargers<\/h2>\n

In August last year, Costco recalled 350,000 power banks made by Ubio Labs after three reports of fire, including an incident on a commercial flight, in which four passengers suffered from smoke inhalation and one suffered a minor burn, according to a notice<\/a> on the commission\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

The commission said the power banks, with the model number PWB1071, can overheat and ignite<\/strong>. The devices were sold in Costco stores and online from September 2018 through December 2020.<\/p>\n

Costco had contacted all known purchasers directly as the Washington-based Ubio Labs was no longer in business, according to the alert.<\/p>\n

The commission also announced<\/a> in July 2023 the recall of approximately 190,000 VRURC portable chargers after one of the devices caught fire during a commercial flight.<\/p>\n

Four flight attendants were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation after the incident. VRURC said in a statement<\/a> that the portable charger ignited due to \u201ca manufacturing condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The recall involved VRURC portable chargers with the model number \u201cOD-B7,\u201d manufactured in China, which have built-in cables and a built-in wall plug.<\/p>\n

The recalled devices were sold exclusively on Amazon from July 2021 through May 2023, priced between $30 and $40, according to the commission.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
