Dramatic Scenes Of Military-Led Coup In Progress In Bolivia<\/span><\/p>\n

There are emerging reports of a military coup going down in Bolivia on Wednesday, with embattled\u00a0President\u00a0Luis Arce denouncing the “irregular mobilization” of some units of the national army.<\/p>\n

He has accused the country’s top general,\u00a0Gen. Juan Jose Zuniga<\/strong>,of plotting a coup<\/strong>,\u00a0and warned “You need to respect democracy.”<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Reuters<\/em>, “Heavily armed soldiers and armored vehicles were seen gathering in the capital’s Plaza Murillo, according to videos shared on social media.”<\/p>\n

“Former President\u00a0Evo Morales<\/a>, who has publicly split with Arce even though both belong to same socialist movement, announced a national mobilization of his supporters to support democracy in a separate post on X,” the report continues.<\/p>\n

There are widespread reports that armored vehicles are destroying the door of the Presidential Palace<\/strong>, and that armed troops are breaking in.<\/p>\n

Amid road blockages and works stoppages across the capital, each side is urging their forces and supporters to urgently assist<\/a>:\u00a0<\/p>\n

Presidential Minister Mar\u00eda Nela Prada said military and tanks were taking over Plaza Murillo in La Paz, calling it an \u201cattempted coup d\u2019\u00e9tat.\u201d<\/strong> The people are \u201con alert to defend democracy,\u201d she said to local television station Red Uno. <\/em><\/p>\n

The general commander of the army, Juan Jos\u00e9 Z\u00fa\u00f1iga, present in the same square, confirmed that there was a movement of uniformed officers, and said: \u201cWe are upset by the affront, enough is enough.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Currently protesters supporting Arce are filling up some of the streets leading to the square while chanting pro-Arce slogans and on their way to confront the mutiny.<\/p>\n
