The “EU Defense Line” Is The Latest Euphemism For The New Iron Curtain<\/span><\/p>\n

Poland and the Baltic States just requested EU funding to finance what they now call the \u201cEU Defense Line<\/a>\u201d, which is really just the latest rebranding of January\u2019s \u201cBaltic Defense Line\u201d that was then renamed the \u201cBaltic Shield\u201d before its latest iteration<\/strong>. It was during this project\u2019s second conceptual phase that it paired with Poland and set the basis for a joint \u201cShield\u201d initiative. Here are five background briefings for those readers who haven\u2019t closely followed this project:<\/p>\n

To summarize, the US envisages Germany employing the \u201cmilitary Schengen\u201d to accelerate the construction of \u201cFortress<\/a>\u00a0Europe<\/a>\u201d, which will enable Germany to contain Russia at the US\u2019 behest while the US \u201cPivots (back) to Asia\u201d to more muscularly contain China. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The two preceding hyperlinked analyses elaborate on the \u201cFortress Europe\u201d concept for those who\u2019d like to learn more about it. This project is basically all about restoring Germany\u2019s long-lost superpower trajectory with American support.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Its relevance to the \u201cEU Defense Line\u201d is that the German-led bloc\u2019s (at least partial) financing will likely serve as the pretext for direct German involvement in its construction, especially if Latvia and Estonia join the \u201cmilitary Schengen\u201d during the next NATO Summit like one of the previously cited analyses predicted. Poland\u2019s request for\u00a0German police assistance<\/a>\u00a0to help guard the bloc\u2019s border with Belarus also facilitates the likelihood of Berlin playing a leading role in the \u201cEU Defense Line\u2019s\u201d construction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the other earlier mentioned analyses was connected to the new Iron Curtain that\u2019s expected to descend upon the EU from the Arctic to Central Europe, with its northernmost reaches referring to the scenario of Finland joining what\u2019s now been rebranded as the \u201cEU Defense Line\u201d. In that event, a modern-day Maginot Line would be built along the EU\/NATO-Russian border, though this time with Germany taking the lead in its construction (and with full American backing) instead of France.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The whole point of rebranding what was first conceptualized as the \u201cBaltic Defense Line\u201d is to market this project as an inclusive pan-European one that\u2019s supposedly being built for the \u201cgreater good\u201d of the bloc\u2019s citizens. This notion is meant to justify EU financing since Poland and the Baltic States don\u2019t want to foot the entire bill themselves (nor can they likely afford it) while also reinforcing the false perception of a so-called \u201cRussian threat\u201d that\u2019s designed to rally the bloc\u2019s people around this shared cause.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Considering the overlapping military, political, and strategic interests at play, it should therefore be taken for granted that the \u201cEU Defense Line\u201d will likely be built and will then function as the new Iron Curtain. It\u2019ll symbolize the\u00a0New Cold War<\/a>\u00a0for the next generation and ensure that NATO-Russian tensions remain the \u201cnew normal\u201d. No normalization between those two will ever be possible after these fortifications are built, but that\u2019s precisely what the US wants in order to indefinitely divide-and-rule them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
