But they make a whopping $79.38 per hour in total benefits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits for teachers are a mere 109 percent of wages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Economic Fairness<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Education Week reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/policy-politics\/biden-calls-for-teacher-pay-raises-expanded-pre-k-in-state-of-the-union\/2024\/03#:~:text=Touting%20student%20debt%20relief,costs%20of%20domestic%20policy%20priorities.\">Biden Calls for Teacher Pay Raises, Expanded Pre-K in State of the Union<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Biden called on lawmakers Thursday to \u201cgive every child a good start by providing access to pre-school for 3- and 4-year-olds,\u201d but he did not detail a specific plan to pay for universal pre-kindergarten, which he has called for in the past and included in his Build Back Better proposal that never passed the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s call for giving public school teachers a raise also included no specifics. It was included in a portion of the address focused on economic fairness, which included a push to raise taxes on the highest income earners to help cover the costs of domestic policy priorities.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no better place to start when it comes to deserving teachers than the city of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>NEW: Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates says the union\u2019s contract demands from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will cost the city more than $50 billion. \u2b07\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>\u201c$50 billion dollars and three cents\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s audacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For context, total base tax\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EZesxJV2Xw\">pic.twitter.com\/EZesxJV2Xw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Austin Berg (@Austin__Berg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Austin__Berg\/status\/1765127448742511069?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>And Who Will Pay?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Reminder that Davis Gates has refused to give her own members an audit of union finances for more than four years despite union bylaws requiring those audits, and hiking dues by 13%.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZzpNztalhY\">https:\/\/t.co\/ZzpNztalhY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Austin Berg (@Austin__Berg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Austin__Berg\/status\/1765141049331085382?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Chicago Teachers\u2019 Union Seeks $50 Billion Despite $700 Million City Deficit<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On March 13, I commented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mishtalk.com\/economics\/chicago-teachers-union-seeks-50-billion-despite-700-million-city-deficit\/\"><strong>Chicago Teachers\u2019 Union Seeks $50 Billion Despite $700 Million City Deficit<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cStop asking that question,\u201d she said. \u201cAsk another question.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is in a city, mind you, that already spends an astonishing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wirepoints.org\/trapped-in-a-death-spiral-chicago-public-school-spending-hits-record-29k-per-student-as-enrollment-shrinks-outcomes-plummet\/\">$29,000 per student<\/a>, including all sources and money for the capital budget. And Chicago Public Schools\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/education\/2024\/03\/05\/chicago-teachers-union-president-pitches-contract-proposals\">already faces<\/a>\u00a0a $391 million deficit for next and nearly $700 million for the following year when \u201cCovid relief\u201d money will have run out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The only way to stop this behavior is to eliminate the public unions, totally.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, a corrupt Chicago mayor is in bed with the corrupt CTU. And the state is the most gerrymandered state in the nation.
