Was Donald Trump The Victim Of White Privilege? A Democratic Member Wants To Know<\/span><\/p>\n

For most of us, this election could not become more confusing. <\/strong>However, Rep.\u00a0Jasmine Crockett (D., Tx.) may have added a whole new level of confusion for many in suggesting that Donald Trump may have been the latest victim of systemic racism among law enforcement in the United States.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Trump\u00a0previously cited<\/a>\u00a0his alleged abuse in the criminal justice system as a point of shared experience with some in the black community.<\/p>\n

Crockett, however, seems to be willing to go further in suggesting that he may be the latest victim of a racist law enforcement system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the hearing with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, the failure to stop and hold Thomas Crooks was raised by both parties in an unprecedented failure of security.<\/p>\n

Crockett then got her chance and suggested that Trump may have come close to dying at the hands of white privilege.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to talk about training and the fact that there was a little bit of confusion between this suspicious person and this perceived threat situation, and it seems like a different analysis is being done. One of my questions is what training your officers are getting on bias.<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve learned over and over again, dealing with law enforcement, that there\u2019s generally no perception of threat when it\u2019s a young white male, even if he\u2019s carrying a long gun. Yet a lot of times, at least in this country, when it comes to law enforcement, there\u2019s a perception of threat simply because a person has a little bit more melanin in their skin.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026Often times, one of the things that we\u2019ve consistently advocated for on my side \u2014 and when I say my side, I mean when we\u2019re faced with a tragedy where law enforcement has made a mistake \u2014 is bias training and whether or not our officers are getting it. So I\u2019m curious, in some of the training that you\u2019re talking about that\u2019s part of your budget, is bias training part of it?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Cheatle responded with \u201cYes, that\u2019s true.\u201d<\/strong> (An apparent response to the training element).<\/p>\n

Notably, Crockett began by getting Cheatle to acknowledge that this was not a failure due to DEI, or Diversity Equity and Inclusion, policies. She then suggested that further DEI training may be needed in light of the assassination attempt.<\/p>\n

To be clear, there is no evidence that Crooks was allowed to walk away after being spotted with a \u201clong gun.\u201d The current theory is that Crooks\u00a0hid the gun<\/a>\u00a0before the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moreover, he was identified as a possible threat due to being found with a golf range finder. However, that was\u00a0not considered<\/a>\u00a0a barred or threatening device by the Secret Service.<\/p>\n

Yet, Trump may find common ground here with Vice President Kamala Harris who has\u00a0long maintained<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cWe do have two systems of justice\u201d and has added:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that most reasonable people who are paying attention to the facts would dispute that there are racial disparities and a system that has engaged in racism in terms of how the laws have been enforced. It does us no good to deny that. Let\u2019s just deal with it. Let\u2019s be honest. These might be difficult conversations for some, but they\u2019re not difficult conversations for leaders, not for real leaders.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump may be willing to have the \u201cdifficult conversation\u201d as the now purported victim of white privilege in the dismissal of would-be presidential assassins.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
