Biden And The Media’s ‘Anti-Disinformation’ Campaign<\/span><\/p>\n

For years the media, \u201cfact-checkers,\u201d and \u201canti-disinformation\u201d initiatives told the public there was nothing wrong with Joe Biden. A few weeks ago, in the space of five minutes, they flipped. Rapid-onset dementia had struck the President and it was time for change.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The people who claim they can sort truth from fiction spent years lying despite the crippling obvious. <\/strong>What is more baffling is why so many people went along with it for so long. Was it fear? Complacency? Cowardice? An incredible level of discipline was enforced \u2013 that has thankfully now unraveled.<\/p>\n

Rather than debunking \u201cmisinformation,\u201d Biden\u2019s protectors often spread it. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In August 2020 the Aspen Institute coordinated a\u00a0Hunter Biden laptop pre-bunk exercise<\/a>\u00a0that sought to suppress a true story to protect Biden\u2019s wayward son and shield the President from major corruption allegations. A swathe of major media and Big Tech participated in that exercise, including the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>,\u00a0Washington Post<\/em>, Twitter, Facebook, and many more.\u00a0Claire Wardle<\/a>, former director of \u201canti-disinformation\u201d NGO First Draft (now the\u00a0Information Futures Lab at Brown University<\/a>) also participated.<\/p>\n

In a letter allegedly organised by Anthony Blinken<\/a>, 51 former intelligence agents claimed the Hunter Biden laptop was a \u201cRussian information operation\u201d <\/strong><\/em>and Facebook, Twitter, and others suppressed the story on their platforms. Almost\u00a0everyone now admits<\/a>\u00a0the laptop was real.<\/p>\n

Or take Biden\u2019s claim that \u201cYou\u2019re not going to get Covid if you have these vaccinations.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

PolitiFact thought that may have been an \u201cexaggeration\u201d but reassured us that\u00a0cases of the vaccinated getting Covid are \u201crare.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The Party told you to reject the evidence not just of your eyes and ears, but your whole body.<\/p>\n

However, perhaps the biggest lie was the years-long campaign to \u201cdebunk\u201d suggestions that Biden was growing incapable of commanding the highest office in the land.<\/strong>\u00a0PolitiFact<\/a>\u00a0was very diligent in \u201cfact-checking\u201d \u201ccheap fakes\u201d and other stories that alleged Joe Biden was senile, reassuring us that everything was fine.<\/p>\n

The term \u201ccheap fake<\/a>\u201d <\/strong><\/em>was coined by Britt Paris and\u00a0Hunter Biden laptop denialist Joan Donovan<\/a>. Donavan has long been a darling of the \u201canti-disinformation\u201d field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the words of Aspen Hunter Biden laptop pre-bunker Claire Wardle<\/a>, the Biden cheap fakes are \u201cthe weaponization of context. It\u2019s genuine content, but the context changes via minor edits. Anyone can be vulnerable with the right edit.\u201d In fact, as recently as June 21 Wardle was carrying water for Biden.\u00a0In a\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>article\u00a0<\/a>that\u00a0sought to debunk \u201cmisleading videos that play into and reinforce voters\u2019 longstanding concerns about his [Biden\u2019s] age and abilities,\u201d Wardle explained that \u201cThis isn\u2019t a new narrative, it builds on an existing one, which tends to be much more effective.\u201d Yes, adding more true information to other true information tends to make an argument more convincing.<\/p>\n

Or take Rebekah Tromble<\/a>, Associate Professor of Media and Public Affairs and the director of the Institute for Data, Democracy, and Politics at George Washington University. According to Tromble \u201cBiden became a main target of deceptive edits.\u201d \u201cThese clips draw on a common trope about President Biden that\u2019s popular among his detractors: He\u2019s old, bumbling, and senile, meaning he\u2019s incompetent and incapable of doing this job.\u201d His gaffes and inability to speak clearly are unrelated to his cognitive ability, and are instead because \u201cBiden grew up stuttering.\u201d<\/p>\n

PolitiFact<\/a>\u00a0is a project of the Poynter Institute which coordinates the biggest network of fact-checkers in the world, the\u00a0International Fact-Checking Network<\/a>\u00a0(IFCN). IFCN is\u00a0funded largely by Facebook<\/a>\u00a0but also by the \u201cCraig Newmark Foundation, the Koch Foundation, the Knight Foundation, the Omidyar Network, the National Endowment for Democracy, Microsoft, and the\u00a0Washington Post<\/em>.\u201d This is not a small fringe \u201cfact-checking\u201d outfit; it is one of the leading organizations in the sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perhaps the name makes it clear \u2013 it is Politi(cised) Fact-checking.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newsguard<\/a>, a \u201cdisinformation\u201d ranking service that can punish a news site\u2019s advertising revenue through its rating system, has also been active. Power Line, a conservative online news outlet,\u00a0alleges they were contacted by Newsguard in\u00a0<\/a>2021\u00a0<\/a>about\u00a0their claims of Biden\u2019s cognitive decline. In an email, Newsguard asked:<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve noticed that the site has repeatedly stated as fact in its article[s] that Joe Biden has dementia, both during the 2020 election cycle and since he became president. Why does the site make this claim without providing credible evidence that he has dementia?<\/p>\n

Newsguard\u2019s approach is particularly concerning because of its ability to impact the revenue of media outlets, and due to its strong links to the State Department and intelligence agencies \u2013 its board includes\u00a0former CIA Director Michael Hayden<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If all that fails you can always\u00a0blame the Russians<\/a>.\u00a0EUvsDisinfo<\/a>, a European Union project to \u201cforecast, address, and respond to the Russian Federation\u2019s ongoing disinformation campaigns\u201d\u00a0claimed reports of Biden being \u201csenile\u201d are \u201cfalse\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and are part of \u201cpro-Kremlin disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mainstream media have also been a critical part of the lying machine, claiming recent videos that show Biden wandering off at a G7 event were \u201cmisinformation\u201d or \u201ccheap fakes<\/a>\u201d and are part of a concerted effort to \u201chammer the narrative that Biden is too old to be president.\u201d PolitiFact also \u201cfact-checked\u201d the story\u00a0with the usual line<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The list could go on and on and on but Matt Orfalea\u2019s amazing \u201csharp as a tack\u201d compilation<\/a>\u00a0puts the nail in the coffin. More \u201cout of context\u201d clips and \u201ccheap fakes\u201d according to the \u201canti-disinformation\u201d \u201cexperts\u201d no doubt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is the lesson?<\/p>\n

On one hand, censorship and suppression only work for so long. Reality will eventually catch up with you. However, it also tells us that a lot of people can pretend the emperor does have clothes, even when he is stark naked and half the court is screaming and pointing at the top of their lungs \u2013 also known as \u201cspreading misinformation.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n

It seems there is an endless supply of \u201cfact-checking\u201d and \u201canti-disinformation\u201d sycophants ready to bow and scrape before the mad king.<\/p>\n

Ultimately it tells us just how corrupt the \u201cfact-checking\u201d and \u201canti-disinformation\u201d industries are.<\/strong> Whilst there are an increasing number of people on the outside speaking up, internally cowardice and the silencing of critics have allowed a prolific level of corruption to grow. This is an across-the-board problem in the liberal and progressive spheres where pious bullies have shut down dialogue. This corruption has led progressives and liberals down a disastrous dead end. Barring a miracle, Trump is coming.<\/p>\n

If there is any justice a reckoning is also coming for the \u201cfact-checkers\u201d and \u201canti-disinformation\u201d \u201cexperts.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
