Experts forecast that this trend is set to accelerate, with global production of cobalt, graphite and lithium set to increase nearly six-fold between now and 2050 (World Bank).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/32748\/top-countries-processing-critical-minerals\/\">As Statista&#8217;s Anna Fleck shows <\/a>in the chart below, <a href=\"https:\/\/unctad.org\/publication\/digital-economy-report-2024\">data<\/a>\u00a0recently published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) shows that <strong>China accounts for around two-thirds of the world&#8217;s processing\/refining capacity for critical minerals. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/32748\/top-countries-processing-critical-minerals\/\" title=\"Infographic: China Leads Critical Minerals Production | Statista\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the extraction of these materials takes place all around the globe, China currently accounts for more than half of the world&#8217;s refining of aluminum, lithium and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/264928\/cobalt-mine-production-by-country\/\">cobalt<\/a>, around 90 percent of that of rare earth metals and manganese and 100 percent of that of natural graphite.
