The course will be an \u201cintroduction to queer theory as an intellectual tool with which to read texts far removed from the political, cultural, and social discourses from which queer theory emerged,\u201d specifically, in this case, medieval texts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWe will ask: what can queer theory offer readers of medieval literature in its explorations of gender, sexuality, race, power, narrative, trauma, and time?\u201d<\/strong><\/em> the course description states.<\/p>\n<p>The course will use the lens of \u201cqueer theory\u201d to examine classic medieval texts such as\u00a0<em>Sir Gawain and the Green Knight<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Though the course is listed on Harvard\u2019s website as taking place in the spring 2025 semester, a Harvard official told\u00a0<em>Campus Reform<\/em>\u00a0that it will actually take place in the fall of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The course will be taught by Assistant Professor of English Anna Wilson, Harvard\u2019s \u201cMedieval Studies Faculty Liaison for Equity and Diversity,\u201d whose faculty\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgs.fas.harvard.edu\/people\/anna-wilson#:~:text=Dr.,modern%20fan%20communities%2C%20particularly%20fanfiction.\">profile<\/a>\u00a0lists \u201cBGLTQ Studies\u201d as one of her academic specialties. Her research interests\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/english.fas.harvard.edu\/people\/anna-wilson\">include<\/a>\u00a0\u201cmedieval Christian visionary writing,\u201d \u201cwomen\u2019s writing,\u201d \u201cfanfiction and fan communities,\u201d \u201cqueer theory,\u201d \u201cgender and sexuality studies,\u201d and \u201crace in medieval literature,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cI am delighted to mentor all Harvard students,\u201d <\/strong>her page reads. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cAs a queer woman, I am particularly happy to support students who identify as LGBTQAII+.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Harvard offers a wide array of services catered to LGBTQ-identifying students, including its \u201cOffice of BGLTQ Student Life\u201d which hosts a number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bgltq.fas.harvard.edu\/events\">events<\/a>\u00a0each year, including \u201ca National Coming Out Day open mic, a vigil for Trans Day of Remembrance, and Lavender Graduation in honor of graduating members of the BGLTQ community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office of BGLTQ Student Life serves as a central resource for bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, queer, and questioning (BGLTQ) students at Harvard College,\u201d the office\u2019s website\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bgltq.fas.harvard.edu\/\">reads<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThrough our work, we foster the inclusion, affirmation, and celebration of all BGLTQ identities and expressions. We strive to create a community where BGLTQ students can thrive and where all students are well-equipped to engage knowledgeably and compassionately with regard to gender and sexuality.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Campus Reform<\/em>\u00a0has reached out to Anna Wilson for comment.
