{"id":1486194,"date":"2024-08-27T11:20:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T15:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1486194"},"modified":"2024-08-27T11:20:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-27T15:20:00","slug":"if-everything-is-so-great-why-are-millions-of-americans-sleeping-in-their-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/if-everything-is-so-great-why-are-millions-of-americans-sleeping-in-their-vehicles\/1486194\/","title":{"rendered":"If Everything Is So Great, Why Are Millions Of Americans Sleeping In Their Vehicles?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">If Everything Is So Great, Why Are Millions Of Americans Sleeping In Their Vehicles?<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themostimportantnews.com\/archives\/if-everything-is-so-great-why-are-millions-of-americans-sleeping-in-their-vehicles\"><em>Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you noticed an unusual number of vehicles in the parking lots of major retailers in your area at night?\u00a0<\/strong> If you look closely enough, you will see that many of those vehicles actually have people\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WallStreetApes\/status\/1827878300884353514\">sleeping in them<\/a>.\u00a0 At this point, millions of Americans are sleeping in their vehicles every night.\u00a0 This is happening even though we are being told\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/thousands-of-businesses-are-going-bankrupt-but-the-economy-is-fine\/\">that the economy is just fine<\/a>.\u00a0 But of course the truth is that the system is failing all around us.\u00a0 So if you get to sleep in a very warm bed in a very warm home, you should consider yourself to be very blessed, because vast numbers of people are really struggling right now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Yellow-Van-Pixabay-800x533.jpg?itok=mAfzxv-d\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The primary reason why so many people are living in their vehicles is because the cost of living has soared\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/thanks-to-the-cost-of-living-crisis-u-s-household-debt-has-soared-to-the-highest-level-ever-recorded\/\">to unprecedented heights<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In particular, the cost of housing has become extremely oppressive.\u00a0 In fact, housing in the United States has become more unaffordable than it has ever been before.<\/p>\n<p>This week, I was stunned to read about a 33-year-old man named Ishan Abeysekera that is paying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/08\/24\/33-year-old-pays-2100\/month-to-live-with-23-roommates-in-brooklyn.html\">$2,100 a month<\/a>\u00a0to share a house with 23 other people\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In a city as notoriously expensive as New York, it\u2019s common to see people in their late 20s and early 30s living with roommates to help manage the high cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>But Ishan Abeysekera has taken that to the next level with his current living situation in Brooklyn: a communal building that he shares with a whopping 23 other people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I say I have 23 housemates, people are like \u2018What? That sounds wild,\u2019\u201d Abeysekera tells CNBC Make It. \u201cBut actually, it\u2019s quite nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>That is nuts!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Who would pay that much to live with 23 total strangers?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course most Americans can\u2019t afford to pay $2,100 a month for housing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example, it is being reported that some flight attendants that work for American Airlines are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/travel\/news\/american-airlines-flight-attendants-said-they-re-sleeping-in-cars-because-they-can-t-afford-the-cost-of-living\/ar-BB1o3aHO?ocid=dlltlhttps:\/\/www.google.com\/?gws_rd=ssl\">\u201csleeping in their cars\u201d<\/a>\u00a0because the pay is so low\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Most new flight attendant hires are required to live in cities like Dallas, Miami, and New York, which have high costs of living that they cannot afford, Hedrick noted.<\/p>\n<p>American flight attendants are sleeping in their cars, she said. Some of them fight for trips just for the chance to eat the plane meals, if the pilots don\u2019t take their meals first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new hire flight attendants are struggling,\u201d Hedrick said, adding that new hires most strongly rejected the 17% hike.<\/p>\n<p>When I was growing up, I always thought that those that were selected as flight attendants had very good jobs.<\/p>\n<p>But those days are long gone.<\/p>\n<p>In this economy, many flight attendants can\u2019t even afford a place to live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course there are millions of others in a similar position.\u00a0 In recent years, \u201cvan life\u201d has become quite trendy, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nbcmontana.com\/news\/local\/van-life-on-the-rise-exploring-the-freedom-and-challenges-of-mobile-living-in-america\">more than 3 million Americans<\/a>\u00a0now fall into this category\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cVan life\u201d or \u201cvan living\u201d is a term that is becoming more popular around the country. People packing up their lives, moving into a mobile unit and exploring the states.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yahoo Finance, the number of American van lifers has increased by 63% over the last couple of years, going from 1.9 million in 2020, to 3.1 million in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In the old days, if you lived in a van down by the river you were considered to be a bum.<\/p>\n<p>But in this economy, living in a van down by the river is just considered to be normal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Needless to say, there are some \u201cvan lifers\u201d that choose the lifestyle because of the freedom it offers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But there are many others that have been forced into this lifestyle.\u00a0 A woman named Michelle Rose that used to own a home in Montana\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nbcmontana.com\/news\/local\/van-life-on-the-rise-exploring-the-freedom-and-challenges-of-mobile-living-in-america\">is one of them<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Three and a half years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, Michelle Rose was about to lose her Montana home, was having issues with her job, lost her mother, and put everything she owned into a van to live in it permanently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like let\u2019s just do this, let\u2019s just sell the house and get on the road and we will figure out things as we go. It has sort of been a by the seat of my pants kind of life,\u201d said Rose.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle says that finances are the hardest part of van life for her, it is a constant worry and finding work is also challenging.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another woman named Katie that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moonshineink.com\/tahoe-news\/living-out-of-cars-in-tahoe-truckee\/\">\u201cworks as a manifestation coach and at a local coffee shop\u201d<\/a>\u00a0admits that it was a tough mental adjustment when she started to live out of her vehicle\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Katie J., who works as a manifestation coach and at a local coffee shop, spoke about the mental legwork she had to work through in order to reach a sense of belonging in the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVan life is fun and cool and saves money and it\u2019s flashy on Instagram and stuff,\u201d Katie J. said, \u201cbut it will bring up a lot for you to work through when it comes to not having roots somewhere \u2026 I\u2019m a black woman and I\u2019m already rare in Truckee as is, so to be also living in a van, I had so much stuff around that, so much shadow work to do around the limiting beliefs and feeling like I\u2019m not supposed to be here, and I shouldn\u2019t be parking here and I\u2019m gonna get in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A lot of these people have jobs, and a lot of these people would not be officially classified as \u201chomeless\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But the cost of living crisis has driven them to the brink of losing everything.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, our leaders never seem to learn.\u00a0 They keep borrowing and spending money at an unprecedented rate, and this continues to create even more inflation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you can believe it, our government is even spending\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycallernewsfoundation.org\/2024\/08\/26\/biden-harris-administration-wants-to-turn-iraqi-highschoolers-into-climate-activists-on-taxpayer-dime\/\">\u201cup to a quarter million taxpayer dollars\u201d<\/a>\u00a0to teach Iraqi kids how to be climate activists\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State Department is offering up to a quarter million taxpayer dollars to an eligible nonprofit to teach Iraqi teenagers about climate activism.<\/p>\n<p>Iraqi high schoolers could receive \u201cEco Action Clubs\u201d bankrolled by taxpayers that will teach them how to advocate for environmental reform in their home country, according to a grant solicitation posted by the State Department earlier this month.
