It is part of the $61 billion for Ukraine (out of the total $95 billion foreign military aid bill) singed into law by President Biden last April.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/zelenskyandaustin.jpg?itok=z98MD4-J\"><em>Image: Office of the Secretary of Defense Public Affairs<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the same day the $250 million weapons package was released (Friday),\u00a0Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin offered some rare\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/xnHUr\">pushed back<\/a>\u00a0against Kiev&#8217;s desperate requests\u00a0to use US and Western weaponry to launch long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory.<\/p>\n<p>Austin while at Ramstein airbase in Germany, where he met with officials representing states backing Ukraine, was\u00a0asked if the US would allow long-range strikes on Russia. He responded by saying <strong>no one capability<\/strong> would be a game changer<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I don\u2019t believe that one specific capability is going to be decisive,&#8221;<\/strong> he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Transcripts\/Transcript\/Article\/3897925\/secretary-of-defense-lloyd-j-austin-iii-and-chairman-of-the-joint-chiefs-of-sta\/\">argued<\/a>. &#8220;Our approach to integrating things and to making sure that they have the right skill sets to employ those capabilities and those capabilities are linked to specific objectives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think Ukraine has a pretty significant capability of its own to address targets that are well beyond the range of ATACMS or even Storm Shadow for that matter,&#8221; Austin continued, while also explaining that the Russian army has\u00a0of late pulled back much of its military assets, leaving them <strong>out of range of the\u00a0ATACMS systems<\/strong>, which can strike at a distance of about 190 miles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a lot of targets in Russia, a big country, obviously. And there\u2019s a lot of capability that Ukraine has in terms of UAVs and other things to address those targets,&#8221; the US defense chief explained.<\/p>\n<p>Still, at the Ramstein base meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Zelensky made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/watch-austin-gives-remarks-on-ukraine-military-aid-at-meeting-of-allies-in-germany\">the appeal<\/a>:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We need to have this long-range capability, not only on the divided territory of Ukraine, but also on the Russian territory, <strong>so that Russia is motivated to seek peace<\/strong>,&#8221; the Ukrainian leader said. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;<strong>We need to make Russian cities and even Russian soldiers think about what they need: peace or Putin.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But the reality is that despite the Kursk incursion which has precisely sought to make ordinary Russians &#8216;think twice&#8217; &#8211; nothing strategically has changed in the battlefield along the front lines in Donetsk.
