Youth are defined as individuals between the ages of 15 to 24.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Youth_Unemployment_by_Region_SIT.jpg?itok=Pk_wiiL8\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The data comes from the International Labour Organization\u2019s 2024 Global Employment Trends for Youth 2024\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/publications\/major-publications\/global-employment-trends-youth-2024\">report<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Which Region has the Highest Youth Unemployment?<\/h2>\n<p>Below, we show youth unemployment rates by region in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-09-15_14-37-04.gif?itok=-CJ0t9xE\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Arab States, consisting of countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Yemen, and others, recorded the highest (28.6%) youth unemployment rate globally, with Northern Africa, consisting of countries like Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco, following closely behind at 22.5%.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/youth-employment-in-the-middle-east-and-north-africa-revisiting-and-reframing-the-challenge\/\">Brookings Institution<\/a>, youth unemployment rates in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region have been the highest in the world for over 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, 30% of youth in the MENA region were NEET\u2013not in education, employment, or training, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/resource\/news\/middle-east-and-north-africa-urgently-needs-relevant-education-training-and\">ILO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say the combination of low infant mortality rates and high fertility rates, which translated into high labor force growth rates from 1970 onwards could be a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imf.org\/external\/np\/vc\/2012\/061312.htm?id=186569\">leading cause<\/a>\u00a0of the high youth unemployment rates in the region.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Northern America region saw the lowest youth unemployment rate in 2023, at only 8.3%.
