Secret Service Investigating Elon Musk Over Twitter\/X Joke<\/span><\/p>\n

Bloomberg reporter and open records expert Jason Leopold\u00a0revealed Thursday<\/a>\u00a0that the Secret Service is apparently investigating\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0over his recent joke about the lack of assassination attempts against regime Democrats.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Responding to someone asking why so people want to kill Donald Trump, on Sunday Musk posted:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd no one is even trying to assassinate Biden\/Kamala.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Musk later deleted the post and clarified that he was joking.<\/p>\n

Well, one lesson I\u2019ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s going to be all that hilarious as a post on \ud835\udd4f<\/p>\n

But the\u00a0Secret Service<\/a>\u00a0may not find Musk\u2019s joke to be a laughing matter. Leopold said he filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the Secret Service\u2019s records on Musk\u2019s post, but was denied the records because they\u2019re subject to law enforcement proceedings.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Wednesday, the agency responded to the requests by saying records it has about Musk\u2019s post were \u2018compiled for law enforcement purposes\u2019 and are being withheld because \u2018disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings,\u2019\u201d<\/em> Leopold wrote on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Nate Herring, a\u00a0spokesperson for the Secret Service, also told Leopold that his agency \u201cis aware of the social media post made by Elon Musk.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence. We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees,\u201d <\/em>Herring reportedly said.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t expect any criminal charges against Musk. Leopold said in his experience, the worst that will likely happen will be that agents visit Musk to make sure he doesn\u2019t pose a threat to Joe Biden or\u00a0Kamala Harris<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leopold also said he requested records on a Sunday Twitter\/X post from\u00a0the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, which said that \u201canyone who murders Kamala Harris would be considered an American hero.\u201d That post, too, has since been deleted.<\/p>\n

The Secret Service also withheld records from Leopold on the grounds that they were subject to law enforcement proceedings. And sure enough, FBI agents visited one of the LPNH Twitter account administrators, Jeremy Kauffman. The agents\u2019 interaction with the poster didn\u2019t go as they planned.<\/p>\n

The FBI visited my house today for free speech acts they knew were not crimes.<\/p>\n
