Revealed: Big Brother’s Facebook Censorship Dashboard<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, America First Legal (AFL) revealed<\/a> documents that shed new light on the collaborative efforts between Facebook and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong> used to censor free speech<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The documents, obtained through litigation<\/a> against the CDC, expose detailed onboarding materials used to train CDC employees on a specially designed Facebook portal<\/strong> aimed at curbing what they labeled “Covid & Vaccine Misinformation.”<\/p>\n

These documents reveal how Facebook, on the heels of extreme pressure from the Biden-Harris White House (including from Rob Flaherty<\/a>, a current senior Harris Campaign staffer) to remove specific posts<\/strong>, responded:<\/p>\n

Facebook created a new \u201cend-to-end workflow\u201d<\/strong> so that government officials could submit links for removal from Facebook;
\n\tFacebook only gave access to the portal to approved government and law enforcement personnel;<\/strong>
\n\tThe new portal dramatically increased the efficiency of the censorship machine<\/strong> by allowing up to twenty links at a time to be referred for censoring;
\n\tBy moving from email chains to a Facebook-hosted portal, the new system also made it harder for organizations like AFL to provide oversight to individual censorship requests;<\/strong>
\n\tEach censorship request automatically generated a ticket <\/strong>number so that the government could track if Facebook complied with its censorship demands;\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tThe documents further show how Facebook explained precisely what content it would remove and what it needed from the CDC in order to censor certain narratives within the bounds of its \u201ccommunity standards.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The documents also highlight the United Kingdom’s role in shaping the Biden-Harris Administration’s approach to online censorship<\/strong>. Additionally, Mark Zuckerberg’s admission<\/a> that Facebook only engaged in censorship after extreme<\/em> pressure from the Biden-Harris White House underscores the external pressures leading to Facebook’s mass censorship.<\/p>\n

Part A: Censorship Made Easy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The documents expose an onboarding presentation given by Facebook employees to CDC staff on May 19, 2021. Facebook trained CDC staff on how to use the platform\u2019s\u00a0 \u201cGovernment Reporting System.\u201d This came in response to profanity-laden demands from senior Biden\u2013Harris White House officials exposed by the House Judiciary Committee<\/a>. As their \u201cEnd-to-end workflow\u201d described, if \u201cGovernment requests,\u201d then \u201cFacebook processes.\u201d<\/p>\n

These slides show how closely the Biden-Harris Administration\u2019s CDC and Big Tech coordinated to censor speech they disagreed with. The onboarding included a \u201cgovernment user experience\u201d demo. As part of the \u201cEnd\u2013to\u2013end workflow,\u201d Facebook streamlined the process to make it easy for the government to censor the American people.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 1 \u2013 Access to Account<\/strong><\/p>\n

First, Facebook granted \u201cAccess to CRS.\u201d These slides showed CDC employees how to sign up, register, and login to the new portal.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Only \u201cgovernment-issued or law enforcement email address[es]\u201d were allowed to use this system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 2 \u2013 Submit Posts with Links\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prior to Facebook creating the portal, the CDC had been sending spreadsheets over email with links for Facebook to remove, but with this portal, post reporting would be standardized and fed into one system. Additionally, moving the censorship requests to a Facebook-hosted portal created a loophole in government recordkeeping requirements. Using this system permits government actors to evade federal law requiring meticulous keeping of federal records, thereby preventing the public from using existing tools like FOIA to see what the government is doing behind the scenes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

At this point, CDC employees could select their \u201cReason for reporting.\u201d These included \u201cCOVID Misinformation,\u201d \u201cVaccine Discouragement,\u201d and \u201cCOVID Vaccine Misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Facebook\u2019s system allowed users from \u201cauthorized government agencies\u201d to refer up to twenty links at a time for Facebook to remove across its platforms. Users could also submit additional comments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Step 3 \u2013 Confirmation and Job Reference Number\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The third step for the new portal was called \u201cFinal landing page: transparency,\u201d where users would get a confirmation message, a ticket or reference number, and be able to access the \u201cHelp Center.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The confirmation message read that \u201cyou should receive a response shortly,\u201d which reaffirms the initial promise on the first slide: \u201cGovernment requests \u2026 Facebook processes.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Part B: Insights into Facebook\u2019s Community Standards\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The briefing also included a summary of Facebook\u2019s \u201cCommunity Standards.\u201d They stated that they only removed information deemed \u201cfalse\u201d by\u00a0 \u201cpublic health authorities.\u201d Despite the many<\/a>, many<\/a>, examples<\/a> of these \u201cauthorities\u201d later being proven wrong, all it took was a government determination by the Biden-Harris administration for Facebook to begin censoring the American people\u2019s speech.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Facebook\u2019s policy was to censor statements that made \u201cfalse claims about masks\u201d (now shown<\/a> to have been nearly useless), which discouraged \u201csocial distancing\u201d (now known to have been fabricated<\/a> by Dr. Anthony Fauci). If an individual was a \u201crepeat offender\u201d of the government\u2019s ever-shifting determinations on \u201cmisinformation,\u201d their account\u2019s reach would be reduced or removed from their site altogether.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Facebook bragged that since the beginning of the Pandemic, which began only a year before the presentation, they had removed more than \u201c16 million pieces of content.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Remember \u2014 Facebook\u2019s policy was only to remove posts if the government had declared something to be false.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The Constitution prohibits the government from censoring the American people, but Facebook and other social media companies went out of their way to make it easy for the Biden\u2013Harris administration to \u201cflag\u201d posts for censoring. With a custom portal allowing the government to submit up to twenty links at a time, the Biden-Harris Administration and Facebook worked together to violate the First Amendment rights of countless Americans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThese documents show\u2013definitively\u2013the architecture behind the systems that political appointees and governmental bureaucrats used to unconstitutionally censor the free speech of Americans online.<\/strong> The right to speak\u2013to even question authority\u2013is so fundamental to our national identity, yet in the name of a public health crisis, Biden Administration officials worked with major companies to silence dissent. The American people need to review these documents and understand just how far our leaders in Washington went to violate the First Amendment to our Constitution,\u201d said Gene Hamilton.<\/p>\n
