Based on five indicators \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/32021\/type-of-alcoholic-beverage-consumed-regularly-by-highest-share-of-respondents\/\">wine consumption<\/a>\u00a0in the country, wine production in the country, vineyard area (as a percent of the country), number of tours and tastings, and average cost of a bottle \u2013 the index ranks the best destinations for wine and wine tourism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/33129\/best-countries-for-wine-tourism\/\">As Statista&#8217;s Anna Fleck shows in the following chart<\/a>, <strong>in 2023, Portugal topped the list as the world\u2019s best location for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/7802\/global-wine\/\">wine<\/a>\u00a0tourism with a score of 8.83\/10<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/33129\/best-countries-for-wine-tourism\/\" title=\"Infographic: Portugal Is the Best Country for Wine Tourism | Statista\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>In second place is Moldova<\/strong>, and while this may seem surprising, the small Eastern European country has a long history of winemaking.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, its total vineyard area represents almost 2 percent of the world\u2019s total.
