Pesta\u00a0titled\u00a0<em>Updated IQ and Well-Being Scores for the 50 U.S. States<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/AverageIQbyState_web.jpg?itok=fjBbsSFQ\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>This data can also be easily accessed via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.datapandas.org\/ranking\/average-iq-by-state\">Data Pandas<\/a>\u00a0or through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8954344\/\">scientific research paper<\/a>\u00a0itself.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Data and Methodology<\/h2>\n<p>IQ estimates are based on an analysis of exam scores from the\u00a0<strong>Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competency (PIAAC)<\/strong>\u00a0for adults, and the\u00a0<strong>National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)<\/strong>\u00a0for fourth and eighth grade children.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/surveys\/piaac\/\">PIAAC<\/a>\u00a0is a large-scale international study of key cognitive and workplace skills of adults, while the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/nationsreportcard\/\">NAEP<\/a>\u00a0is the largest nationally representative assessment of student capabilities in public and private schools in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Note that IQ scores have their limitations, and do not capture all aspects of intelligence such as creativity or emotional intelligence. These scores are all considered \u201caverage intelligence\u201d by the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale.<\/p>\n<p>The top three states are\u00a0<strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>\u00a0(104.3),<strong>\u00a0New Hampshire<\/strong>\u00a0(104.2), and\u00a0<strong>North Dakota<\/strong>\u00a0(103.8).<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts\u2019 higher score average could be due to several factors. For starters, the state is home to prestigious universities like Harvard and MIT, which may contribute to a more academically focused culture.
