{"id":1493082,"date":"2024-09-30T17:45:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T21:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1493082"},"modified":"2024-09-30T17:45:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T21:45:00","slug":"watch-live-fed-chair-powell-speaks-as-rate-cut-euphoria-fades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/watch-live-fed-chair-powell-speaks-as-rate-cut-euphoria-fades\/1493082\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Live: Fed Chair Powell Speaks As Rate-Cut Euphoria Fades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Watch Live: Fed Chair Powell Speaks As Rate-Cut Euphoria Fades<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Since the July FOMC meeting, <strong>US macro data has done nothing but surprise to the upside<\/strong>, but that didn&#8217;t stop The Fed from slashing rates by a crisis-like 50bps on 9\/18.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/cesiusd.jpg?itok=-9HnVVBU\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The strengthening economic data, &#8216;soft&#8217; or &#8216;no&#8217;-landing-esque, has prompted a<strong> hawkish decline in the market&#8217;s expectations for rate-cuts<\/strong> in 2024 and 2025&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/rates.gif?itok=vopmXPAE\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In light of all that, <strong>Fed Chair Powell is scheduled to address the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) at 1355ET in Nashville, Tennessee, and for the first time since the big cut,<\/strong> he is expected to elaborate on the Fed&#8217;s decision and on the considerations that will frame an expected series of reductions in borrowing costs over the rest of this year and in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/0636c61c72b200edc01b64b6705a7667.jpg?itok=2BCcPjk3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Debate over that decision has already begun.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In remarks to a bank conference in South Carolina on Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/newsevents\/speech\/bowman20240930a.htm\">Fed Governor Michelle Bowman, <\/a>who dissented against the half-percentage-point cut on Sept. 18 in favor of a quarter-percentage-point reduction, noted that the personal consumption expenditures price index stripped of food and energy costs had increased slightly in August.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Reuters reports that among 32 professional forecasters surveyed recently by the NABE,<strong> 39% cited a &#8220;monetary policy mistake&#8221; as the &#8220;greatest downside risk to the U.S. economy over the next 12 months.&#8221; <\/strong>By contrast, 23% regarded the outcome of the Nov. 5 U.S. presidential election as the biggest downside risk and the same number cited an intensification of the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>So will the apolitical Powell jawbone the market&#8217;s uber-dovishness back a smidge?
