For example, a country where one person owned all the assets and everyone else had nothing would have a Gini index of 100%.<\/p>\n<h2>Ranked: Countries by Wealth Disparity Changes (2008\u20132023)<\/h2>\n<p>In UBS\u2019 list of select countries,\u00a0<strong>Singapore<\/strong>\u00a0has seen the largest growth in its Gini index, up to 70% in 2023 from 53% in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-10-01_15-41-02.gif?itok=9OYJniu0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The government has enacted policies intended to attract\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/mapped-millionaire-migration-in-2024\/\">high-net-worth individuals<\/a>\u00a0as well as international investment capital to Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, policies to reduce inequality have been constructed through an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newnaratif.com\/explainer-inequality-in-singapore\/\">economic lens<\/a>, such as trying to remove structural barriers that prevent people from maximizing productivity.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, in the same time period, Singapore\u2019s average wealth rose by 116%, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstimes.com.sg\/companies-markets\/singapore-average-wealth-continues-uptrend-inequality-surpasses-several-regional-peers-ubs-report\">median wealth<\/a>\u00a0fell by 2%.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the top three,\u00a0<strong>Finland<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Spain<\/strong>\u00a0join Singapore as the three countries who\u2019ve seen a 20 percentage point increase in their Gini index values since 2008.
